Should I Get Flu Shot?

ok. I am at the doctor and they suggested I get the flu shot. I know many of you Google and upon Googling I have read where some neuros say not to get the flu shot. I have a friend who sees a neuro for other reasons and he said his neuro said to never take the flu shot. He was told it can make neuro issues worse or arise. Wondering what you all have been told. I'm not doing it today.

I get the flu shot every year. The one year I did not, I got an awful influenza and ended up with - guess what - BCFS! High fever for 3 days, sweating in bed and shaking so hard I could barely walk and then fried nerves? LOL I'll never know for sure but I didn't have the BCFS symptoms before the virus. Why would any doc tell you not to get one? Unless you are somehow already immune-compromised.There is mucho research developing now on viruses and they are even tracking them to stuff like a higher incident of births of autistic kids (this is during specific parts of fetal development and just in the beginning of the animal trials.) The researchers (who had started out working on the aids virus) came upon this in disproving the false vaccination-austistic connection. I can look up the article if you want to read it.You really have to be careful how to read this stuff, I know, but there is the evidence and there is evidence - the sky is blue so it won't rain vs. the sky is blue but there are clouds so let's wait and see. I'm with the wait and see. But in the meantime I'm getting the shots and also my symptoms have gotten better. We spend so much time worrying about what we eat, chemicals in the environment, tried and true vaccinations, we sometimes forget the real and present dangers. Viruses and bacterial infections have been killing people since the beginning of time.

yep, no injections for me or anyone I care about. Too many uncertainties out there. I know nothing is 100% safe and there are no guarantees but I'm with Chris, I'll take my chances with the flu.

Ummm, RB, that's not what I said so we are not in agreement. My opinion is that you should take the flu shot because it is a known threat. Guessing that the shot may harm you is unknown. Not using vaccines is just fine if you are never exposed to the stuff they protect you from - here's a short article I've had this debate many times over the years and in the end we do what is most comfortable - but it is in our interest to at least stay informed. Most of the people alive today haven't met a person that survived polio or small pox - these are not nice little viruses - they cripple and kill. Some of the the new flus & viruses seem to also be very dangerous and many people here have reported symptoms after a flu/virus/infection so it is something to consider.

I get the flu shot every year.My wife has multiple serious chronic illnesses and I don't want to bring it home to her. Also, I have gotten many flu shots and it has never affected any neuro symptom one way or another. Also, the flu sucks and can kill. An 11 year old boy on my wife's side of the family died from it.Needed to present the other side of the story.

get the flu shot every year, and all bar this year managed to avoid the flu ( even with shot- vaccine obviously did not have the strain that I caught!). Worth having in my opinion- especially with all this swine flu going around. And no way do I think there is any relationship between flu shots and getting/agravating BFScheersRodger

I never got a flu shot and can't remember when I last had the flu (Maybe when I was a child- I remember throwing up a lot and feeling very ill, but I recovered).
