Shin Pain After Dancing

Hi there againI started to have terrible pain above ankle and below calfs in the back. Feels like muscle pain. Started day after I went to dance for 2 hours. I know you will say it is because of dancing, but I dance every week and I never had pain here. I am not sure is this muscle pain or tendon pain. Is this location SHIN? I read shin is connected to the foot and as you probobally know by now, my foot arches and soles hurt (yes, I have trouble dancing last months :()What I am worried is because this kind of pain seems to come and doesn't leave me. On my forarm I have pain in muscles and doesn't go away for 14 days now :( Till today I was not very worried because of it, but today both legs in the location I mentioned hurt me so much I have trouble standing and walking. Feels just like oversporting pain.I am becomming to worry because I read this kind of pain can come and not leave because I have too weak calf muscles now. And as this things didn't happen before and I was a homemade runner until october, I am wondering if this can mean my muscles are atrophied and the remaining muscles are doing the hard work and they can not and that is why I am in constant "muskelfiber" (christinasgirl123 will understand the word, I don't know English word).Does clinical weakness ever present in a way one has sore muscles and can not get rid of them? At the begining I mean, I know when it advances you can not walk, but is this kind of muscle pain typical for clinical weak muscles? My calf doesn't seem atrophied, but I have pain below it and my foot of course and my forarm... It is spreading all over my body muscles.

Jerry ; i have the same Kind of pain in my forearms every day, and I very well know which pain you are talking about speaking about your ancles..As for your "muskelfiber" which is called "muskelkater" here (translation would be muscle-hangover) ;) ...we all have that, it only takes using a muscle a bit longer for a constant time, and it will be sore for days :( This is indeed very annoying, as this includes stuff like carrying my toddler or using an egg whip or straightening my hair..... Jerry, most likely for the next months, anything excepting sitting on the couch with a can of beer, will give you pain in a range from "slight pain" to "OMG I need a ton of ibuprofene".Pain while you do it (tightening up pain) and after you have done it (sore muscles). Some pain will stay in a place , like my forearm pain. You will have sore muscles on places you didn't know you have muscles. All we can do about that is accept it, try to ignore as far as possible and move on with our daily life. So go dancing, running, whatever you like and try not to focus on the pain: do not let this disease keep you from doing things you like because you are afraid of sore muscles.

So this sore muscles pain is not about weakness or starting to have weakness in muscles? I know before september I could dance, run etc. without sore muscles now I seem to get them and they last for weeks which confuse me why. I am just trying to find out what did I do to not be able to move the pain in muscles away for so long time (if ever?), just gets worse and worse. I am starting to have more and more problems with pain which is maybe a good things because then the twitches will not bother me so much and the less I think about twitches the less I think ALS. But as some muscle pain is ALS also I can not relax, although I think there is cramping pain not sore muscles pain and I have like sore muscles pain, no cramps (only feet cramps). We have a lot of German words in Slovenian language (we were after all, Austroogrian province "a while" back ;))) We say in slang muskelfiber and I would have sweared it came from German, like we say "Å tunfi" for socks (I know it is written differently in German.

No, this type of pain we are getting is not the pain in ALS. I am sorry that you are just running in the same direction as I am...more and more pain. But see, I have been in so much pain I could hardly walk at all, not lift a hairdryer ect. and still, the EMG done at that point was all clear.

Yes, it is not cramp pain, it is sometimes bad even in the morning as like I am wrestling all night :( (I am not!)At least from my view cramping is when the muscle get's tense and stiff and in so much pain that wakes ysou up if you are sleep or if you are not you can not release the muscle few minutes. This pain is like overworkout pain, that just doesn't go away. Yes, I am becomming weak :( Weak from pain, I have strength but I can not use it because muscles just hurt...I think I may start believing soon all this can not be from ALS, I would make a very unique ALS patient I guess. Well, that's the good news.

Well, you know that I am over that fear because all this cannot be ALS...but after the first step is done, and this is what I am fighting now: getting used to the fact that this pain will probably stay a looooooooong time. Just exactly what you said, I do not have clinical weakness but the pain makes me "weak" and it interferes my daily work :( . But I think that I should be glad not to have anything like ALS, and so I try to live with what I got now. I mean, if I whine about that crap all the time, it won't get better from it. I still think that there must be a way to get my nerves down to "normal", and this is what I will be working on .

Ah, thanx :( I thought maybe you don'+t twitch any more then if you get pain...I now take every evening one tablet of quite weak sedative, to see if it makes any night difference to me. My logic says if I tremble because of my mind, sedative should stop it. Problem is, sedativ works 6 hours I think and I don't tremble at the begiining, but more in the morning. I still do, I am doing this for few days, can not analyse any more. I would say I do not wake up in the morning any less stiff (I mean muscle sore) than before. I am still having bad dreams... I'll report in a week...

I have dealt with the exact same problems with my BFS. My pain or cramps or whatever you want to call it seems to start in my right calf/ ankle. It then progresses to my left calf and then my right forearm. Sometimes even my back would get sore for no reason. It feels like you spent hours working out when you only did something like walk the dog. The majority of people on this forum have had issues very similar to what you are dealing with. For those problems I tried several things. I have a heating pad and take long baths with epsom salts. This helps the pain immensly but obviously you cannot use all the time. The other thing I tried is yoga. That really helps because it stretches those muscles out and loosens them. If I could not perform strenuous exercises I would at least go on long walks (1 hour a day). Short term exercise might be hard but in the long term it will help you build/ maintain strength and will help reduce some of the achiness.

Same as herty18 but with symptoms in mirror image. amazing similarities. youll continue dancing. i had the same symtoms and no doctor called that acual weakness. it was all perceived and made more alert by guarding from pain.

Jerry, I was just talking with my mom about this a few minutes ago. Yesterday I painted my kid's bathroom. Its not a huge room and painting has never been something I would consider strenuous, however today I feel like I ran a full marathon and did hours of pilates. My legs, butt, and arms feel sore to the touch. I used to walk/jog 7 miles a day 6 days a week. Now, painting the bathroom makes me feel like an eighty year old woman. I guess, on the bright side, its good news I have the strength to climb up and down the step ladder and paint all day. It is tough to reconcile how I went from the amount of activity I used to tolerate to this.I also get a tenderness in the exact area you're asking about. I can't tell if its bone, muscle, or soft tissue. All I know is it is very sore. Frances

Sounds like your Achiles tendon, could be inflamed....you can get tendonitis in any of your tendons...and a tendon inserts into the muscle

A few days ago I was having the exact same kind of pain in the region between the calf and the ankle. It is totally BFS. I had been weening myself off the klonopin but I took a full .5 mg dose that night. Within 20 minutes the pain was gone and has not returned. I think everyone has a different solution but klonopin is definitely what helps me the most.
