Seeking Relief from Neck and Back Pain

I have a bad neck and back. Nothing new. I try to get massages every so often to avoid big problems. I once had a disc come out of place and it was excruciating. My husband bought me a membership to a massage place, but I have been too scared to go since all this crap started. I don't want to look like a freak twitching on the table, and I am sure that I will twitch. I am thinking that I will just have them focus on my back. Has massage made it worse for anyone who has tried? Thanks!

Don't worry I think most massage therapists have seen just about everything (the stories I've heard). Massage has often made it better and occasionally worst for me - sorry, let me explain. In general it is better, especially if you are directive in want you want, what you think you need, where your pain and problems are. However, some deep tissue work didn't help at all as I think it irritated the muscles more - of course I used to be quite a cramper (BCFS) so it may be different if you just twitch and don't get cramps. The best massage therapists I had instructed me on proper breathing to help with relaxation so maybe ask about that as that was an improvement. Good luck, it's certainly worth a try!

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I do more than just twitch. I have pain, cramps, you name it. I think I will just have to be specific to what I want. I hate for massages that are paid for to go to waste.

I say go for the massages. They might make you relax. I used to go to a chrio. Before the adjustment they did a massage on me. I kind of enjoyed it.I might do it again :).

I find that massage helps me a ton! I try to go a couple of times per month. I was so scared too that the massage therapist would think what in the world is going on once he saw my muscles twitch, but not once have I twitched while being worked on. It forces you to relax in a way that you couldn't if you were just sitting at home. It is atleast my 1hr of being twitch free :D)
