Seeking Advice: Muscle Relaxants and EMG Results

Hi,I wanted to know if taking a muscle relaxant (or anticonvulsant for that matter) can fudge up an EMG result?I'm patiently waiting for my first EMG/2nd neuro assessment, although I'm quite sure I have BCFS. Ontario's health care system is slow... Thanks

I would think that the test will not be affected. Mention it to your doctor and hear it from the horse's mouth when discussing your results. All the best for a speedy recovery. Rob

Should of googled first. Most medical sources say stop taking muscle relaxants 3-5 days before the test as they MAY interfere. So for validity sake I would stop. Thanks Rob.

What? 9 months for an EMG?! Where exactly are you. I'm in Toronto and have never waited long at all. That's sucks. And I've asked the neurologist about the medication. No, will not skew results.

Colls_Maroon I'm from/live in Toronto as well. Where did you get your EMG done? Was it a specialty clinic? I've seen a neuro and have been referred to a PMR doctor and neither of them actually have the *beep* thing....it's so elusive. AND the rate I'm twitching/cramping/quivering I'm thinking it's BCFS or Isac's and I'm only 19 :( do you know anyone good in Toronto in ways of treatment? Thanks

Yup, 9 months, if i remember correctly, you are part of a private referal network that you paid for??? I went through OHIP - 9 months wait.

I don't know if its because of my primary doctors office or not. To be honest, I do think they get preference. When I was having an ultrasound a little while ago, the technician said "you'll get your results in 3-5 days...oh wait, you're from Medcan, you'll hear back today".Guess that might be my answer!
