Was the EMG done at Penn? I had one done there, but not of the tongue: Dr. Shawn Bird, and a follow up exam with Dr. Mark Brown (who I am seeing in June again). These guys are very highly regarded.
I think a full bulbar workup will include the tongue, the muscles of mastication (I forget the names) and most importantly belelive it or not, the paraspinals that run the length of your sppine, but they check them up by the neck).
I certainly have a mishapped tongue, and was told this was due to normal asymmetry and bite patterns, so if you are playing around with your tongue this might have an effect. I wouldn't worry about that unless a neuro told you s/he saw atrophy. What we see and they see as atrophy or two different things.
Of course I am facing tongue and facial stiffness and am going through my own little crisis since I never had an EMG of the bulbar area. BUt I bet we both will have clean bills of health, that is if I am reading your post right that your EMG was at a local place and you are going to Penn for follow up. If your tongue EMG was done at Penn I'd have no worry.
Good luck; I will pray for you. Let me know how you make out.
