Right Foot Down, Sore & Cramping

This is really getting me down, when i walk, every time i put my right foot down my calf feels so tight and sore and crampy, and i mean EVERY time. It has really violent twitches that really show no sign of going away at all.I have had this 6 months now and thought that this would be long enough not to be worried about ALS but booboo read that actually the onset is 5-10 months ! so still right in the middle of this.So does anyone have this constant pain???

Hi Chris,Ummm...when I said 5-10 months, I was really referring to a thread I read on medhelp.org in the neurology section. It was a doc trying to reassure a poster scared of twitches, etc. that what they were explaining would have already been in the works for that amount of time. I just wish I could find it again, I'm sorry. I already spend way too much time on here lately and my baby is like..Mom, whattya doin?? 6 months IS DEFINITELY a good amount of time that with all this twitching, you would notice something else. I'm positive of it! I know how it is when your twitches feel like they're just never going to give up. They can and will and if they don't, if there is no weakness and atrophy, you are FINE. Especially with pain from a perceived cramp. Or even if it's a real cramp. Pain is not terribly common as a presenting symptom in you-know-what either. I forget - have you been to a neuro and had an EMG? If you had anytime during this twitching cycle, it would pick up on an abnormality EVEN IF YOU DID NOT PICK UP ANYTHING BUT THE TWITCHING. I wish I had these weird twitches for 6 months already do I could feel more confident that time was on my side for the most part with being able to rule out something that would've reared something more of its ugly head by now. I am only approaching month 3 and while I had an EMG 2 1/2 weeks ago, I am obsessing a bit here and there that it must be bulbar then. Please get the 5-10 month thing out of your head as a definite rule or marker and that you still have 4 more months to go to find out or something. I'm sorry I said anything!

Hey Chris,I don't have constant pain in my calf, but I do get it on ocassion. Nothing to worry about, really. You know, I think that deep down you KNOW that you are fine. Try to connect to that sane voice in your head. Your symptoms are so common with BFS, to the extant where it seems that the "text book" is all about you! Regards,May

I do understand what your all saying of course i do but my pain in constant, and also tonight i noticed in a checkout que that if i put all my weight on my bad foot, ie lean on it, my leg starts to wobble and shake, the other side does not do this, i am certain that this is weakness. I have defiantly read that when your muscles shake this is the start of weakness.Scared AGAIN and sick of this

Muscles also quiver and shake from overuse. I'm not saying this is your case since I'm pretty sure you'll tell me you haven't done anything extra other than walking around, etc. Well, shaky muscles can be caused by a whole host of things. My husband has twitching he sees but doesn't feel, twitching he feels but doesn't see - mostly all in his legs. They sometimes feel like they're about to give out on him (he works for UPS) and was told by an orthopedic surgeon after x-rays and such, that he has atrohpy in at least one knee. And you can't even see it from the outside just by looking at his legs or anything. He had an EMG and it was clean. He'e been taking Requip for Restless Leg for 5 years now and also has to take periodic pain meds as his legs can feel nightmarish at times - especially during sleep. Go back to the neuro and show him this symptom. See if it's truly weakness or simply perceived. And I'm not saying your leg isn't shaking, just that it may not be the weakness you are dreading. My face can shake when I'm smiling sometimes - is this bulbar onset?? Or am I just cheesing too much/too hard??
