Questions About Back Pain

So I posted in a different post, but I'll give you the short rundown. Had chest pains 3 years ago, wasn't cardiac, told it was muscle. 2 years ago thought i had ms/als because of what felt like knots up and down the left side of back - no weakness or anything, just knots - and they hurt. Couldnt' get them to go away. A few weeks ago, the tightness that has been in my back spread down into my hip/pelvis/lower abdomen area. Those muscles all feel tight and have had some twitching (while the body-wide twitching has also continued -the bodywide has been going on for two years, sporadically). Also feel tightness into my arm on that side of my back and more twitching all the way down to the hand. Arm and hip feel a little weaker, but nothing to prove that it is actually weak. Pretty much in the areas that were twitching, they now feel stiff. Have had XRAY, MRI, NCV, and EMG. NCV and EMG were done yesterday and the physiatrist who did the test said it looked completely normal (did a number of muscles in the affected arm and did a thoracic paraspinal muscle. Clean, according to him. I was relieved! I still have a neuro appt on 3/2, but the fact that the EMG appeard to be clean really helped. However, I'm starting to worry again. They didn't do any muscles in my leg or hip. They really didn't do any in my back, except for the one thoracic paraspinal. I'm perceiving weakness/tightness in my arm/back/leg/hip, but nothing profound. Can still do 20 pushups without a lot of exertion. Did they not do enough on the EMG? Was it too early after the twitching in that area? Does the physiatrist really know what's going on? He told me I don't have **S or anything related to nerves, according to their test, but it was only about 40 minutes total between NCV and EMG. Why am I worrying??? Is there anything to be worried about??? I wish my neuro appt was sooner...and that the actual neuro was doing the EMG! HELP! I was GREAT last night - but I'm worried again! I've heard that EMG does not always pick up **S... :(

Clean EMG in muscles that are twitching means you are clean.Ask the Neuro to do a good and full blood panel with B12, Magnesium, Potassium...etc. Also do a Lymes titer. But feel good. No worries.

I wish I could just relax. My left hand feels so weird. Right at the base of my index finger or sort of in the area between my index finger and my thumb. It sort of feels like a cramp, but i can't tell. I've felt it twitch a few times, but most of the time I don't feel it actually twitching. Entire left arm still feels kind of funny, but that's the side of my back with all the tight muscles anyway, so why wouldn't it be? Left leg has still felt funny, but then again, now the right one is feeling funny. Not really weak, just funny. I would think if it was moving to all locations, I should have weakness in those locations, right? I'm only 23 - I shouldn't be worrying about this!!!! It's just that I fear leaving my bride of 1.75 years...and putting her through the whole process of **S. THAT scares me more than going through it myself. She means the world to me....MPLS - I'm in Eagan. Nice to know I'm not the only one in this neck of the woods that is dealing with twitching...

You are WAY too young. You would have serious weakness if you were twitching like that and it was ALS. With BFS muscles do feel weird. I get quite a bit of fatigue....if I am anxious it gets WAY worse. If I drink, it gets worse. If I don't sleep it gets worse.Like I said, ask your neuro to do a full blood panel....Many of us take a multi vitamin, magnesium, and a B vitamin....also, feel free to join us on Facebook...just search BFS.
