Questions about ALS: EMG?

Hi!

I posted earlier with my situation

I have a simple question. I just had a Neuro exam and the doctor indicated no clinical weakness. Is that enough to eliminate ALS as a possibility or should I go for a EMG? He offered a EMG test if I wanted one but said he expected it to be normal.

My symptoms of "weakness" is still there (right thigh) and some twitching still occurs especially in the "weaker" areas of the body.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Brian,

After my first clean neuro exam, my doctor told me I could have an EMG but that he was sure it would be clean and if it were him he wouldn't have one. So I didn't. After my second clean neuro exam a month later I was still freaked so he recommended the EMG but still thought it would be clean. And he was right - after 19 pokes with the needle - the report was clean.

I guess the moral to the story is - your doctor can probably tell from looking at you and from the exam if you are OK.

Do you feel like your exam was thorough and that your doctor knew what he was talking about? If so, then you'll either have to trust him or seek more reassurance in the form of the EMG.
