Questioning When to Trust Doctors?

At which point do you trust doctors and move on? I personally had a fabulous week last week... very little twitching. However, over the weekend the twitching in my shoulder and upper arm was so strong you could see it throught my shirt. I've had multiple clean neuro exams, clean Mri's...you name it! My EMG is scheduled for 2/14! However, my neuro would rather not do it and is basically doing it for piece of mind. My twitches are primarily in my calves and right arm/shoulder. Should I worry that they tend to becoming worse- more visible. I feel them more frequently. The shoulder ones are freaking me out. I'm worried about ***. I'm also in constant muscle pain in my arm and shoulder.

Yes, I know I was doing wonderful for a while. But, I guess I've hit a bad few days.

Any advice would be appreciated! ;)

Kristin,

Don't worry about increasing/worsening twitches. Mine got progressively worse for about a year. They have since "stabilized" a bit, not any better, but they don't seem to be getting worse. As for believing your doc, that is a hard question to answer. It took me several months, probably even over a year before i could completely believe (though I still have my mental lapses) that I wasn't dying of anything horrible. That said, I don't think it was a matter of believing my docs, but rather the passage of time without any debilitating sxs.

Hang in there, things should get better.

I can sympathise with the upper arm twitches you can see through your shirt. I had a hot spot in my upper left arm which twitched away and was visible through my shirt also. The twitching ranged from single thumpers to rapid fire multiple twitches lasting 5 seconds or more.

The last week has been pretty good, with very little twitching. The fact the twitches stay constant, get stronger, or go away then return is a good sign I'm told.

Kristin-I'm glad you posted because I have suddenly started twitching a lot in my arms and shoulders, adams apple area and back/sides. Of course I get nervous but now I feel a little relief that I am not alone. This has been going in for 3-4 wks now. Hang in there. How often do you have the arm/shoulder twitches? Does it sometimes feel like rippling?

My arm twitches are far worse at night. I have a few a day (I'm lucky- I know) and a few an hour at night. Some of the twitches feel like small ripples- others look like my arm muscles is going to twitch through my shirt. Fun stuff! ;) The muscles feeling and looking like they are going to rip through my shirt- is a new one for me. It's completely unnerving!

However, after my post this morning I've kept myself busy and barely felt them. I'll try to get into the superbowl excitment!

Thank you for the support.

Kristin
