Question about Twitching/BFS Symptoms

Hey everyone, new here but definitely not new to BFS or whatever I have going on. I was hopin maybe I could get some questions answered and see if this sounds like BFS to you guys?Ok so here goes: I'm a generally healthy 20 year old guy and for the last 7 months I've had pretty much non-stop twitching 24/7. It started out in my fingers/hand and gradually moved through out my body and now I twitch EVERYWHERE. Especially legs, right arm, abdomen but really everywhere. When this began I also had "stabbing" feeling in my throat/neck muscles and I went to the dr who prescribed me antibiotics and it seemed to go away for the most part. I also remember having strange, warm sensations on the back of my feet. Like someone was putting a warm water bottle under em. This went away eventually. Anyway, back in august I saw a neurologist who did a quick exam and just tested my reflexes, strength, walking etc. He said I seemed fine and since I had reported to him that the twitching seemed to be slowing down some, he thought it was some autoimmune thing that was going away on its own and I had nothing to worry about.Fast-forward to now, 5 months later and I'm still twitching constantly. Some parts it's very localized, like my right arm, just above my elbow.. and it can be triggered easily by stretching or using it. But this only seems to happen with my right arm in the same spot. It's like a squeezing feeling. Scared something is happening like muscles are dying. Everywhere else seems really random. Other than twitching I get bad headaches, chest pain, joint pain, knee pain, shoulder pain. And it's not just here and there. It can be very painful so at times I'm really concerned that it could be something serious like ALS or MS. I also feel like I've noticed a bit of atrophy on my left shoulder, but not sure. It definitely aches a lot, so that's pretty scary. But it could just be anxiety. Twitching doesn't precede atrophy in ALS, right? Let alone for 6 months?? I mean, I try to tell myself these things, but my shoulder looks weird to me. Another weird symptom is that I see blue spots sometimes, like in the corner of my eye, which I read can be a sign of neurological disorders. Anyone else have this? Very worried.I see the dr tomorrow and I'm gonna try to get some more tests done and see another neurologist to get an EMG or MRI. I hope I'm fine.Does this sound like bfs to you guys? Or something more sinister? Thanks,a very afraid 20 yr old

Good Luck on your EMG which will be normal and uneventful. As Lauren points out, you are way too young for ALS and it would be very rare for MS, being male at that age. IMO, the reason your doctor is concerned with your growth on your neck is that it could easily explain your symptoms. If the mass, or goiter< benign of course, is pressing on your thyroid gland it could be causing an imbalance of your thyroid hormone and that would explain most every symptom you state. Or the mass could be pressing on your parathyroid gland in which case your calcium levels are all out of whack due to an imbalance in your PTH levels. Either way is an easy dx and fix for the most part. A good endocrinologist who deals in thyroid should be able to help you. Have you had any bloodwork to confirm or deny these two ideas?Either way like I said above and was mentioned to you already by a veteran here, this is NOT something sinister in its presentation.

Many people experiencing these symptoms fear they may have ALS or MS. Muscle twitching is not the first symptoms of either disease so you can relax. You would have pronounced weakness (as in, you would be having a lot of trouble walking or using your arms/hands). Your symptoms suggest a fairly typical case of BFS which is a type of peripheral nerve hyperexcitability (PNH) where the nerves are overly stimulated due to an immune fault. Symptoms vary for a lot of people. I for some reason have random nerve pain.

I can relate to the weird blue spot. I also got "lightning bolts", gray areas in the corners of my vision, and bouts of bluriness. On top of that had random diziness on top of all the neurological nonsense. Doctors thought it had to be MS. Had all the tests run right in the middle of one of those "flares" and everything was normal. Everyone was stumped. Finally got back on my anxiety medication and guess what???? Every single symptom disappeared for the most part and even the neurological symptoms diminished greatly. The mind is amazingly powerful and deceptive. I don't think the medical profession acknowledges the ability of the mind to mimic all kinds of disease processes when psychiatric illnesses like severe anxiety are present. Just my opinion. Hope you get some answers and relief soon.

Hey everyone. Getting an EMG tomorrow morning, very nervous. Any suggestions? Also getting the cat scan and chest x ray tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.
