Puzzled by Uneven Foot Tapping

I feel sick to my stomach. I have noticed lately that when tapping my feet, my right foot is slower and more awkward than the left. The left foot taps fast and smooth, while the right foot is kind of awkward and all over the place. Sometimes I can get it to tap nice and smooth and fast, others not. Sometimes it kind of "stalls" and seems "confused" like it's out of my control. I saw a similar thread on this forum awhile back, but there wasn't much discussion. Lo and behold, apparently this is specific for upper motor neuron damage. See:Does anyone else have this problem? Geez, I hope this is normal. :crying:

I always enjoy hearing from you, Chrissi. A model of someone who has a touch of everything but keeps her head up high. :) Is your right foot *slower* or just less coordinated/awkward?

It is slower and less coordinated. I discovered it quite early actually, I think it was about a weak or so after my upper motoneuron was cleared twice my clinical and transcranial motor stimulation

You made me feel better, thank you. I think doing it with my shoes on makes it more difficult for some reason. With shoes off the difference is less. Still a bit awkward though - like the right foot wants to go SUPER fast but isn't coordinated enough to do it.Thanks again!

Nickston,Like Mario said, I've stopped self-testing myself. But I can tell you that I have many differences between what my left and right hands can do. Don't self test, it will drive you nuts. -Matt

I don't think the fact that you are right-handed necessarily means that your right leg is dominant over your left leg. Anyway, I have "trained" my right foot to tap as quickly as the left one. :) But my right big toe does not tap nearly as quickly as the left big toe. It's a work in progress. :D) Mario and BobJazzy, what's the point in avoiding self-testing if I am already obviously mad??

LOL, I just might...I am right handed. I think part of the problem in my right leg is that I have a tremor (or clonus? I don't know what it's called) when I keep my toes on the floor but keep the heel just off the floor. It's not always there, but I remember this happening for the first time about 20+ years ago. Anyway, when that automatic leg bouncing takes over, it puts an end to my ability to voluntarily control foot taps, so any effort at a fast, coordinated foot tap goes out the window. I seem to have better control over the foot taps now, though, but heel taps are sometimes awkward, sometimes great and big toe taps are still pretty crappy compared to my left big toe. My right leg is messed up too - I was doing a lot of calf raises a few months ago and I injured the right leg. 30 days of powerful NSAIDs later, it feels much better, but not 100%.I am so crazy... I am ashamed to even tell my wife these thoughts as I realize I come across as a total nutcase. It's kind of funny though... some people hide from coworkers or spouses or friends and say "I'll be there in a minute" to hide their drug habit... I do it to hide my self-testing habit. JUST ONE MORE FOOT TAP!! I NEED IT!!!

Yeah, the bouncing leg is pretty common from what I understand. A lot of people have it. Besides if I had it 20+ years ago I figure it must be benign.

Nickston u are too funny....I used to walk on my heels and toes all the time.....then I spotted my grandson whose 2 doing it as  well..... ...I thought great now I'm teaching my grand baby how to strength test!!...and yes we are like addicts....just one more heel toe walk...just one more look at my tongue.....where do we stop??
