Positive ANA Test and BFS?

Hi -

I was just wondering, since there's so much speculation as to the relationship of BFS and an autoimmune response, and so many of us seemed to have the onset of symptoms around the time of a viral infection, how many of you have had a positive ANA titer result? (that is the test - usually to detect lupus) I know mine came back positive 1:640, but the rheumatologists assure me I don't have Lupus.

It would be interesting to see how many have this elevation in common.

Hey Kael...

Wow another person with 5 kids. It's a lot of work isn't it? My nuero ordered an ANA test, and I should be getting the results next Wednesday, so I'll let you know. I have read that a lot of people have had positive ANA tests, you may want to do a search on this site to see all the posts about it. I know my neuro ordered that test after I complained of all over twitching, joint and muscle pain....all over but mostly in the right leg. She suggested maybe Lupus. My mother-in-law has that, but it has been in remission for almost 20 years. There are a lot of Auto immune disorders besides Lupus, such as Rheumatoid arthritis and Scoleroderma just to name a couple. Just a thought. A lot of people have brought up the possibility that BFS could be an auto immune disease that affects the nervous system.

Well, good luck in your persuit for a diagnosis to your mystery illness....keep us posted!
Welcome to the BFS site ;)

Kael,

My ANA is 1:640 too. No Lupus either. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder that may cause this elevation. If you have thyroid problems, this could be a factor. Twitching and thyroid go hand in hand.
