Pinching a Nerve in Neck/Back

Has anyone here ever compressed/pinched a nerve. I am currently working on a construction site and when I was doing some very heavy straining, I felt a burning/strong aching pain that radiated from my upper left neck down to the back of my left shoulder and shoulder blade/upper back. The pain was only temporary and it has flared back up when I really strain myself. I don't really feel pain at rest but this happened around the same time my left front deltoid fibre has begun twitching very finely for the last couple of weeks constantly and my left arm muscles have twitched more than from my normal BFS twitching. Has anyone else had this happen and do you think twitching can be caused due to this? I have been twitching in the same spot for weeks and it won't go away, how long to recover from this??

Makes sense to me and I would think it will continue twitching as long as it's aggravated. Maybe a visit to a chiropractor would help. Cindy

The first twitching that I noticed came I had a very sore leg for about four days. I stayed off the leg for a few days and the pain went away but the twitching began. It was constant for about 24 hours then that area stopped and the widespread twitching began.Sandra

Hi def--Sorry to be so late in replying, but according to both my neurologist and a neurosurgeon, the answer is "yes," pinched nerves in your back or elsewhere can cause nerve irritation resulting in twitching. My neuro also says I have BFS but I have disc problems and lumbar spinal stenosis. Much of my twitching was/is in my right leg and foot; that's where I also get burning pain, tingling, buzzing and general pain. Both docs said the pain, tingling, etc is related to the stenosis and nerve compression at L4/L5; they each said much (but not all) of the twitching in my right leg and possibly some in my left leg is realted to nerve compression/irritation. I also have twitching in my arms, abdomen, eyelids, etc, so it can't ALL be related to pinched nerves. But as I said, my neuro dx'd BFS back in December, so the nerve compression has likely just added to the twitching. I suppose, then, that someone with twitching in one or both legs only and who also has nerve compression in his/her lower back MAY (I'm speculating, based on my own doctors' diagnosis) be able to link the two.BTW--I noticed the twitching in my right leg on the same day last October when my back "went out" big time. It was that episode of back pain that led me to the doctors and the resultant diagnosis of BFS and then degenerated disc.

Yeah I agree Mark, it was a very isolated pain that only lasted sharply for a couple of hours from my neck down to my shoulderblade/back of my shoulder, but now I have noticed during sleep that my arms tend to fall asleep while sleeping as well more often. However, the pain was very short duration and the pain has been gone for almost 3 weeks, but my same muscle fibre on my front deltoid has been twitching pretty much constantly, very fine for almost 3 weeks (around same time of injury). It has not spread to other muscle fibers in the shoulder, it is only like 2 fibres that twitch and I do not seem to have any shoulder weakness. Do you think this could be causing this?? If so, how long do you think it might take to recover and those fibres stop twitching. I just read on here that focal very fine twitching, seen but not felt might be bad.... Just wondering if there is any correlation. Thanks!!!

Thanks 43RichyThe43rd, Yeah but I am more used to the pain associated with a neck injury/compressed nerve/herniated disc possibility. Problem is I started having these rapid fascics during a time of alot of squating in my inner thigh, looked up the twitching and BAM I have been twitching ever since all over (4 months now). Those eventually subsided but now with these fine fascics in the shoulder constantly for 3 weeks that still have not gone away and I have no pian I am terrified it is ***. I have a neuro visit on July 28, I am sure I will request an EMG but maybe an MRI wouldn't be such a bad idea either. I just pray to god it is nothing life threatening, 25 y/o 2 kids and I am really scared.....
