I was watching the Today show and they had a medical segment on a rare condition called PANDAS. This is an acronym. The girl whose story was being profiled couldn't stop sneezing. It caught my interest for several reasons. First, they said it was caused by an overreaction of the immune system to a bacterial infection. The immune system overreaction causes the creation of antibodies that attack part of the brain (I think they said basal ganglia) and the infecting agent and can cause tics and other strange neurologic symptoms. The doctor mentioned immune complexes and autoantibodies (both of which I have tested very high for several times) as being indicators of the condition. The girl was successfully treated with IVIG (a treatment that was suggested as a treatment for my twitching if it got worse and caused other problems). It was also noted that many doctors are not aware of this disorder. It was further noted that the problem can come back and need treatment again or may be gone forever with one treatment.
