Overcoming Anxiety Through Support

Hi all,I thought I'd give you all some positive feedback regarding my own symptoms. I have said all along that my twitching was due to my anxiety. I also believe that for many of you your symptoms can be related to an auto-immune response. About a month ago,or thereabouts, I started to focus on my anxiety. With the help of medication, my psychiatrist and support from anxietycentre.com I feel like I have conquered this twitching. I have barely twitched for the past 2 weeks. In actual fact if I have twitched the sensation has faded into the background. The first thing that disappeared was the buzzing, then the cramps and then finally the twitching.I know that I always harp on about anxietycentre.com but it truly helped me put this condition into perspective. You get plenty of info about symptoms. It also indicates that during "recovery" your symptoms will remain for some time. Our nervous system is overloaded so it takes time for our bodies to return to normal. I also bought this book called "Complete self help for your nerves" by Claire Weekes. Basically this book tries to teach you to learn how to relax and enjoy life again by overcoming stress and fear. I believe that some of us have anxiety induced twitching and some of have auto-immune induced twitching but regardless of the cause a large % of us have anxiety issues. I really hope those that are anxious try hard to work on anxiety because you will eventually get to the point where I am.In terms of medication, I started on Endep (or Elavil). At first I had increased twitching, buzzing and the usual other symptoms. However I accepted that this would happen and tried not to get too worked up about it. Secondly I was taking valium for between 2 to 3 weeks. After that I was put on another medication called Zyprexa. Now this medication is used as a mood stabiliser in my circumstance. I also understand that it is used for various other conditions like bi-polar, schizophrenia and other things. This med is generally what a psychiatrist would prescribe as opposed to a GP.I honestly feel that it was this Zyprexa that changed everthing for me. Within 2 days even though I was still twitching at that point in time my anxiety virtually disappeared. I'm not saying that this is a cure at all but for me it worked wonders. I have got my life back. I can help mum now (she's got ALS for those of you that don't know). I no longer feel like I'm in a deep dark tunnel.I hope this info is at least able to help some of you. Oh and I also took the attitude "I will recover and it will take as long as it needs to". I tried hard to not focus on a fixed time frame. i feel the dividends have paid off.Maria

I think its all related somehow someway, someday someone will figure it out, probably when were all old and grey and we'll all go ohhhhhhh thats what it was. I think its a mix....of anxiety, bad diet, stress, illness, etc.....for me it seems or felt like all of these happened at once and boom, still twitching 6 months later. Great post though, I think controlling the "mental-anxiety factor" should be the most important as diet changes and exercise are easy fixes. Best of luck controlling your symptoms and you and your mom are in my prayers. Did you read that scientists in Australia have isolated the defective gene in sporadic ***? Which could point towards new avenues for treatments and ultimately a cure. Seems like a big step to me!! Someone else pointed that out on a post and I checked it out, seems legit.

Maria,It's really great to hear your twitching has dropped off and you are feeling much better about life. Many thanks for all your advice on dealing with the anxiety part of this condition. I'm sure it will be helpful to many here. All the best for continuing good health and recovery.Chris
