hi there
this is one great source of support
does anyone wake up with their hands feeling numb, swollen, and like they've fallen asleep? Shake it and it goes away. i can't see too much of this around this site. sometimes it's the whole hands, last night it was the thumb and two fingers. What is this???
also, i've noticed light tingling ont my fingertips, again, coming and giong throughout the day.
can anyone give me their thoughts
thanks

Hi. If you can "shake it away," and it affects the thumb and first two fingers, that sounds like carpal tunnel symptoms. I had that for a while about 4 months ago. I, too, woke up with numb hands--sometimes the whole hand, sometimes a portion like you and sometimes, it hurt like a you-know-what. I relocated my computer keyboard and mouse and haven't had those problems since. Now, my little finger and half of ring finger go numb at night or if I'm leaning on my elbow for any length of time. This area of the hand is "served" by a different nerve than the one affected by carpal tunnel.

Take a look at how you're typing or if you are doing repetitive tasks--that could point you in the direction of carpal tunnel as well. I've also had a student undergo minor wrist suregry recently for carpla tunnel and he had the same symptoms you described (and I once experienced.)

Just my take on it but regardless, I'm pretty sure you can't shake away anything really bad :) ! I hope this helped.

I get the night numbness, yes.

Oftentimes, it's about a 50/50 proposition as to whether a certain weird symptom is something else (carpal tunnel, reflux disease), etc.

But I get the night numbness, and I've always been fairly positive that its BCFS and not something else.

I get it in both hands and both feet. As soon as I saw the title of your thread I said "yep".

I get the night numbness as well, but for me it extends from the shoulders down to the hands. It doesn't happen every night, and in fact hasn't happened in a while. I always attributed it to be one of the myriad of symptoms of BFS...or that I slept wrong. Like you, it goes away once I move shake them.

My hands fall sleep almost nightly. As a mater of fact 3 nights ago I woke up and could not lift my hand. I must of slept on it funny and cut off circulation or compressed a nerve. It took several seconds before I could even lift my wrist.
