Nobody Got ALS from This Site

"not one person that has ever visited this site has gotten ALS."
Basso - you hit the nail right on the head.

I just lost a friend and co-worker to ALS. I can tell you that you do not think that maybe you might have it, you would KNOW that you have it (or you would know in a very short time). I had the same anxiety as everyone here when I started twitching as it happened around the same time he was diagnosed. I saw a Neuro and checked out fine (MRI, EMG, etc.). Seeing it progress first hand made me realize that what I was experiencing was not ALS. I still twitch, cramp, and ache, but I know that these annoyances are not fatal and are not the main symptoms of ALS. After seeing what my friend went through, I am almost emabarrassed that the thought even crossed my mind.

Just as my annoyances are not fatal, neither are yours. Try not to worry.

Karrieanne - I had the EXACT issue about 2 weeks ago. For nearly 3 days I was paying attention EACH and EVERY swallow, burp, drink of water, etc. that occurred in those few days. It was aweful.

Like mve05, I also live in Michigan and allergies are out of this world this year. My allergies changed this year to include a significant amount of post nasal drip - not so much the runny nose and itchy eyes and this change in my allergy symptoms made me change my meds. I went on Zyrtec-D and it dried me out so bad, that I had a tough time swallow my saliva...well, that kicked in the panic that something bad was happening.

After the 3 days, I basically got tired of worrying about it...and eventually, I was fine. If something truly was happening, I would have been to a doctor by now and the symptoms would have continued.

Anxiety + Allergies = YUCKY STUFF!

I'm guessing we're two peas in a pod on this one and sooner than later, you'll "forget" about the swallowing and the perceived troubles you're having.

All the best and good luck - you'll make it...

I love my anxiety mixed with my allergies  . Good times! My newest thing is this horrible tickle in the my throat that I can feel everytime I breath. I am sure it is just the post nasal drip from allergies. I live in Wisconsin so we,re not that far. Hell, we probably even share some of the same pollen! The funny thing is I never noticed any allergy problems before. Well I probably did but just didnt put much thought into it.

I wonder when all of this worrying goes away. I am so focused on everything my body does. I try not to think about it but it is always there. I just started Effexor XR a few weeks ago so I am hoping that helps. This site has helped me tremendously. I hope it is helping you too. Thanks for the kind post :D) .

Karrie
