Hi Vanessa,
I'm not sure why your doctor would call your twitches tremors, or your tremors twitches, or whatever he's doing.
Clinically, they are two very different manifestations and can have entirely different etiologies, so I would just ask him to decide which one you have. (Or, perhaps you have both?)
My tremors are generally intention or kinetic, in that they occur when I'm moving my hands or arms. Resting tremors are more often associated with Parkinson's, but I've had these with my bfs as well, particularly the internal shakes. I used to mistake my ratcheting movements for tremors because when I would go to reach my arm out, there would be a jerking movement, but now I realize that was just ratcheting. What fun!
Anyway, twitching is a brief, sudden contraction of an individual muscle, while tremors are a persistent shaking of the entire limb. I would say a twitch is more like a jerking movement and a tremor is a shaking sensation. Like Jenn, I also get the leg shakes which make me crazy. It is very different from twitching.
The buzzing that you are describing I think is also twitching, it is just a different type of twitch. "bfs in a nutshell" details the many varieties of twitches we can have. I've had the buzzes, too, but that is not the same as my tremors, though internal tremors can give me quite a buzz. LOL.
Geez, it is hard to articulate this stuff in writing, but if you were sitting here, I could easily show you right now, my twitching bicep and my shaking hand and you would immediately see the difference. They happen to both be acting up today. Grrr. Maybe I should make a video of "Sue's bicep."
You seem to know the difference, anyway, but your doctor for some reason is saying the wrong thing.
Blessings,
Sue
