No Idea: Neurological Twitches/Tremors

No idea.

I have internal tremors and vibrations, and they don't feel all that related (although they are just as frustrating), apart from both being neurologically connected somehow... Tremors buzz, almost like a motor, whereas twitches thump; that's how I feel them, at least. I've also had eye tremors and twithces recently, and they again feel different.

Vanessa,

I think I know what your GP is saying. I believe I have posted on this subject before. The last two weeks I have been having terrible tremors from head to toe. When I stand I can literally see my pants move, my hands are shaking, my face is shaking, every inch of me is shaking. This is not an anxiety shake or a low blood sugar shake. I do not feel jittery, I just shake. I lay in bed or stand really still I can acutally feel my whole body jumping inside, they are deep and slight. I have said before that the tremors that I get or we get are actually muscles slightly jumping inside, movement. Everytime the tremors happen this is what I feel. I remember the time in the beginning where I told everyone I had an earthquake feeling wake me up and it was sooo strong but nothing on the outside, this is the same thing but smaller. I really think the tremors are from constant muscle movement, like they are jumping inside, mine anyway. I am going to be seeing a muscle movement specialist to see why at times my whole body is moving inside at once, which looks like tremors..Maybe you can relate to this, maybe not but thought maybe that is what your GP meant. Also everytime I have this movement I will ache all over. It is like my brain is doing something to my body. This is starting to scare me some because I thought these have left me but I guess not and I do not think BFS can cause an all over body experience such as this but maybe I dont know anymore...Jenn

Hi Vanessa,
I'm not sure why your doctor would call your twitches tremors, or your tremors twitches, or whatever he's doing.

Clinically, they are two very different manifestations and can have entirely different etiologies, so I would just ask him to decide which one you have. (Or, perhaps you have both?)

My tremors are generally intention or kinetic, in that they occur when I'm moving my hands or arms. Resting tremors are more often associated with Parkinson's, but I've had these with my bfs as well, particularly the internal shakes. I used to mistake my ratcheting movements for tremors because when I would go to reach my arm out, there would be a jerking movement, but now I realize that was just ratcheting. What fun!

Anyway, twitching is a brief, sudden contraction of an individual muscle, while tremors are a persistent shaking of the entire limb. I would say a twitch is more like a jerking movement and a tremor is a shaking sensation. Like Jenn, I also get the leg shakes which make me crazy. It is very different from twitching.

The buzzing that you are describing I think is also twitching, it is just a different type of twitch. "bfs in a nutshell" details the many varieties of twitches we can have. I've had the buzzes, too, but that is not the same as my tremors, though internal tremors can give me quite a buzz. LOL.

Geez, it is hard to articulate this stuff in writing, but if you were sitting here, I could easily show you right now, my twitching bicep and my shaking hand and you would immediately see the difference. They happen to both be acting up today. Grrr. Maybe I should make a video of "Sue's bicep."

You seem to know the difference, anyway, but your doctor for some reason is saying the wrong thing.

Blessings,
Sue
