Newcomer Seeking Answers on Twitching

Hi:

I am new to this forum. I started twitching all over about six months ago apparently after a viral illness. Of course, I went on line and looked up muscle twitches and immediately saw ***. Yikes! I've run the gambit of odd symptoms including, pins and needles, twitches in the calves; then all over twitches including my arms, chest, scalp, lips, tongue and thumbs. I have had four MRIs with and without contrast to rule out MS and a brain tumor. I have also had an MRI of the spinal column. I have had a two complete neurological exams. All normal. I have had a complete blood workup. The only thing that showed up there was that my sugar was a bit elevated, but I took the blood test after having a big iced coffee. The second blood test was normal.

My fasciculations change in intensity. At first, I had some big jumpers that would occur when in a relaxed state. This hasn't happened recently. I have had cramps in the legs and feet. I have noted pulling sensations in my arms, but these have gone away. I have noted some floaters and streaks in my vision after all this began.

My neurologist (who got fed up with me after the sixth visit and *** panic) told me that I had a benign condition and suggested to see this site. I went to see a top *** specialist as well and she said I DO NOT have ***.

My neuro prescribed taking Ativan and this helps with the twitches. However, I really don't like taking this drug as it makes me sleepy and puts me into a bit of a fog.

Lately, I get some electrical sensations now and then that move from place-to-place and a "buzzing" sensation in my left foot. This has recently appeared in the right bicep. I'm sure most of you know what I mean regarding the buzzing.

Does any of this ever go away? Or am I in for the long haul with this? It is annoying because I get fatigued on some days. I have other days that are quite good.

Any encouragement would be helpful.

Thank you,

Z

Hi Z, and welcome to our forum.
In answer to your questions, everyone is different. Some of us have symptoms that wax and wane with stress or illness (more like me,) and others have constant fascics.

The one common denominator we ALL seem to have, is that anxiety intensifies our symptoms. So, once you can get your fears of bad diseases under control and accept that this is a benign condition,(albeit bothersome, sometimes,) you should notice that things calm down considerably.

The other thing that helps a lot of us is to exercise on a regular schedule. It doesn't have to be strenuous exercise, though if you can do that, go for it. But walking, stretching, something to get your limbs moving seems to be of great benefit for many folks here.

Finally, what I suggest to everyone is that you avoid Googling your symptoms at all costs. Since most of us aren't doctors, it is impossible for us to interpret the terminology and the jargon in any meaningful way that won't bring harm to our fragile souls. It's like seeing an accident on the side of the road, it leaves a permanent imprint that can't be shaken. Just steer clear and you won't be tempted to second guess your diagnosis.

Blessings,
Sue
