New Twitcher: Neurologist Exam

Question:I am fairly new here, just having started a twitching episode after the flu and extreme stress about 3 months ago. After much anxiety I got in to see a Neurologist who did an exam that consisted of the following:- checked my eye movement;- checked my hand-eye coordination;- did the whole exam while I was fully clothed with long sleeves and pants; I did pull my pants legs up to my knees to show here some of the twitches; she only saw one and didn't think it was a big deal;- did some basic strength tests that really didn't seem to be that hard to do, mainly resistance testing;- tested reflexes;- inspected the muscles of my lower arms and lower legs;- watched me walk down the hallway and back;- I think the Neuro also checked for clonus because she said later that none was found; Here's my question: it has to do with checking leg reflexes. When the Neuro tested my knee and ankle reflexes, she did it while I was sitting in a chair with my feet firmly on the floor. Every other time a doc has tested my reflexes it has always been with my legs dangling over an exam table. Does anyone know if that is an acceptable way to test reflexes? I hate to question the quality of my exam, but that concerned me a little. I also realize that I have tremendous health anxiety right now and may be worrying too much. After this exam, the Neuro told me that my exam was just fine, no problems. I am still waiting for the EMG to be scheduled.Jim

I had a year of followup after my first visit and during this year and in my whole previous life i NEVER had to put my legs to any of examination table to check knee reflex. Knee reflexes as far as I know are always done with the feet on the floor and sometimes you even have to place one leg above the other.

Thanks much for the replies. That makes me feel a lot better. It was just that my GP always had my feet dangling over the end of the exam table whenever he did it, but the neuro did it the other way. I know I need to trust the doc and let it go, but I am still battling a great deal of anxiety and fear because the twitches haven't gone away and my EMG hasn't even been scheduled yet. It's been over a month since I saw the neuro and I still don't have a date for the EMG. I really appreciate having similarly affected people on this forum to talk to. Thanks again.Jim
