New to Forum, BFS/Twitching?

I am new to this forum. I don't know whether I have BFS or not. I am getting daily twitching in my chest/esophagus area. It is not painful but is very annoying. It especially happens when I am trying to sleep. Sometimes it feels like the twitching goes all the way up to the top of my head, especially my temples and I feel dizzy. I am taking Nexium for acid reflux and don't know whether it is related or not. I have been getting the occasional twitching in my eyelid, my buttocks and my upper left arm, but it is the chest twitching that has me really concerned. Does anyone else get this type of twitching?

Hi Grammapat! Welcome to our little forum.
My husband (who also has bfs,) has had the twitches in his chest muscles, very strange looking indeed.

I've also had twitches in the intercostal muscles of my ribcage.

As for esophogeal twitches, these sort go with the gerd territory.

Have you had a clinical exam yet? Your doctor should be able to test your reflexes and strength and tell you if any further testing or follow-up is needed.

You sure do sound like one of us, though.

Blessings,
Sue

I was just going to post about this one, my chest muscles have been twitching every night lately too, especially when I lay down, the first couple of times it scared me because if first felt like some weird heart palpatations but I think its just twitching.

Isn't that funny- I've always had that and thought it was a weird heart thing too...almost felt like it was in my upper chest or throat...now I'm nearly positive it was always a twitch as it never showed up on a holter monitor when I had them...I also get the abdominal twitches- they are pretty strange feeling!

Thank you for responding. I feel a bit better knowing that others are experiencing similar problems. I am going for a motility/ph test on the 5th and hope that the twitching occurs while being tested and they may have a better idea about what is going on.

My abdominal twitching are not evident from the outside. I can only feel them happening inside my chest. My other twitches though (like my eyelid) are definitely noticeable.

Thanks also for the welcome.

Yes LisaLM, that answers my question. Thanks! And sure enough, coxsackie virus can attack the brain causing encephalitis [1] and the peripheral nervous system possibly initiating a destructive autoimmune response [2] and fasciculations. [3] I suspect that immune attacks on detected viral or microbial invaders embedded in nerve tissue underlies many BFS cases. Apparently about 40% of peripheral nerve hyperexcitablity cases including BFS involve autoimmune disorder. [4] But if we throw an invasive agent into the picture, the immune system's behavior is not a 'disorder' directed at 'self' but an attack on invaders embedded in self-tissues. The result looks like an 'autoimmue disorder' only if we fail to identify an initiating agent.

I get twitching in my chest a lot. Mostly, after I cough heavily or sneeze. Feels very weird! My eyelid is back to twitching again and I've got the buzzing on the bottoms of my feet again. I'm not so worried anymore after finding this site however. You'll be fine!

Count me in for twitching in my chest (especially when I lay down) and esophagus area - I got it quite frequently about 4 months ago and it seemed to subside, then of course, new areas areas to twitch soon came on.
God Bless, Mark
