New Member: Leg Twitches

Hi all, Just wanted to post and introduce myself here, Names Jay from UK.I had these twitches begin in my lower left leg in November 2013, so about 3 months of it now.A week after the lower left leg twitches began I went to the Dr, she said it could be exercise causing it, well it then spread to my right leg too, so I went the usual google route and got scared, went back to another Dr he tested my reflexes which were fine, so that eased my mind, he did blood work which was also fine too, so I felt better about everything. The twitches continued...I tried taking magnesium in case I was lacking that, no change yet.I twitch at rest not mobile, so at home if I am seated with legs to floor I will twitch, so I keep my feet up on a chair as this lessens the twitches for me.The twitching has spread to other body areas I was awoke this morning by facial twitching and I got anxious again. For me dealing with the Anxiety is going to be the challenge, I am a Daily drinker of beer or wine and I know I need to stop that too but it does stop me focusing on these twitches all the while.I havent seen a Neurologist yet, I am seeing the Dr again next week to discuss that, so I havent been diagnosed with BFS yet, and I am hoping it is only Anxiety causing my problems. But from what I have read here so far it would seem likely. So that is the stage I am at with my twitches, I will continue to read member posts here as it does help me to relax a little more on all this, and reading the post "BFS in a nutshell" helps too...I will keep you updated on my progression as and when I find out anything.Just nice to know I am not alone in this.I will add that I would like to overcome my anxiety in a natural way if it is possible rather than taking tablets like my Dr said would I like to try 50mg Propanonol? my only question really is should I try a natural remedy if one exists or take the medication?

Sounds like BFS to me! As for propranolol -- I take it occasionally for heart palpitations, but it does seem to help the twitches. I take a very low dose (10 mg) and even that makes me very drowsy, so I don't take it very often. What helps my anxiety most is exercise, prayer, and staying off the Internet! I wish you well. - Michele

My GP had told me it doesn't make you drowsy. ..... great! I was going to try it and see but I don't want to be half asleep. The good thing about that v an SSRI is you don't have to take it regularly and can take it when you feel anxious up to 3 times a day. I was on escitalopram (SSRI) but my twitching definitely got worse when I upped the dose to 10mg so I've come off it. I know that twitching is not supposed to be a common side effect but I know there's a link.
