New Here - Tongue Twitching Worries

Hi, I'm new to this site. I would really like to advice. I am a 31 yr old female. I started twitching about 2 months ago. One month after twitching I had an EMG and exam which were normal. About 1 week ago my tongue started twitching. I am now constantly worried about my speech and the way my tongue feels. I am so scared that I have ALS. I don't what to do. Please help. Sarah.

Hi Sarah,What you have is not uncommon for people with BCFS. Take some time and read through the information pages in the General topics section: BFS in a nutshell has all the general info you need - also THERE IS NO CONNECTION BETWEEN BFS AND ALS! These will clear up some misconceptions so you won't freak out. Then take a deep breath, and realize you will be OK but you may have to change your life somewhat (to learn not to stress, mostly). Many people can offer you tips and help but do yourself a big favor and start with the facts. ;)

I had the exact same thing happen almost--i had a clean emg right after i started with my all over twitching ( i just posted another post in this section) -- and then a little after that my tongue twitched-- it did maybe once or twice before that--but anyway, it is creepy-- but there are people on this site who have had tongue twitches for years......i am 47 --

Hi Sarah! Welcome.I'm 31, also. I have twitched for four years. Like you, I had an EMG prior to my tongue twitching. Lets see... I started twitching in May 2004, was seen by a neuro in June 2004- didn't believe him so... went to Mayo Clinic in August 2004 (I live in Jacksonville and my bro-in-law new a doc over at Mayo that got me in pretty early), had my EMG August. Then, in October, my tongue started twitching. I went back to the neuros at Mayo insisting on another EMG due to the tongue. She (actually they) looked at it, said it was fine and refused to perform another EMG. One of the neuros was quite clear that IF there was something wrong (like ALS) then the first EMG would have picked something up even though only my limbs were "poked". Hope this helps. Also... you're not self testing are you? Like sticking you tongue out to look at it??? If so, this use to aggravate mine. And I notice if I'm starting to get a sore throat it will aggravate the twitches there. Again, hope this helps! Take care.

What I love about this site is reading about other symptoms of BFS...so if my tongue does start to twitch, I won't get nervous  ...no tongue twitching for me, but that's okay, because EVERYTHING ELSE TWITCHES!!Hang in there, Sarah! Like Witchy, I have also twitched for 4 years!Blessings, Chayo

Hi Sarah,Im 34 and for me it all started with the tongue twitching – so I know exactly what you are talking about. I've had those for 7 months now!!! I also twitch EVERYWHERE else, including the face, lips, nose (that's a funny one  ), back, calves…. 2 clean EMG's (apart for some fasics here and there) and several visits to neurologists , so please trust me when I tell you that this is all part of BFS. YOU ARE JUST FINE!
