New Here: Strange Virus Symptoms

I am new here. My problems began last May when I had a strange virus with a high fever and severe muscle aching. The fever and aches subsided after a few days but then about a week later I started having severe pain in my calves with paresthesias and burning. That subsided in a few weeks and then came the twitching. I went to my family doctor who did blood work and gave me muscle relaxants. Well, a year later and I am still twitching and driving myself crazy about you know what. I am also having strange muscle symptoms. I have been trying to exercise but it seems i just can't. If i do, i have fatigue for days on end afterwards like i ran a marathon when i didn't. I feel tired all the time. I don't think I have muscle weakness. Wouldn't I have noticeable muscle weakness by now, a year after the twitching started if it was something serious? I think anxiety is playing a major part here because i am so stressed about this darn twitching. I just wish it would go away already!! My twitching is mainly in my calves but I also have it other places occasionally, definitely worse with stress or a lot of caffeine. Thanks for listening.

Boy if that doesn't sound like typical BFS I don't know what does! Welcome to the club. Try to relax....you'll drive yourself crazy! Read up on all you can on this site, it will help your outlook.

I agree with Jen, this sounds like BFS and close to what I experienced. I, too had a bad virus 2 weeks prior to the onset of my twitching. I was also exhausted for the first few months but gradually my energy improved. Now 9 months later, I can say the condition comes and goes. I still think there is some sort of virus residing in my system that has never completely left. It is triggered by stress and lack of sleep primarily. If there is any merit to my belief that BFS is somehow viral or related to such, personal symptoms would vary; which they clearly do based on what we read on this board, as would our individual improvement. Of course I am no doctor...but they do not seem to have any concrete explanation, so I have formulated my own. I have tried minerals, vitamins, acupuncture, massage, exercise or none, diet changes, caffeine, alchohol etc...you name it, nothing really helps.
Relaxation is good and keeping busy.

Finally, if you have not had any tests, {EMG, Neuro work up, etc} you may want to do so for your own peace of mind. Considering you have experienced these symptoms for almost a year, the chance of this being a serious illness is probably slim. Hang in there.
