Excess saliva isn't an ALS symptom; inability to swallow it can be a symptom. Excess saliva can be caused by any number of things, including mouth and throat irritation as well as mere smells and even thoughts of food (think Pavlov's dogs!). Use the search function to see other threads on saliva—many here have had saliva issues.
