Olivia,
Welcome!
I spoke to a physical therapist yesterday and she said weakness (not ALS weakness, but out of shape weakness) and fatigue can cause twitching. Other things can also trigger it such as meds, stress, viruses, and vitamin deficiencies. Alot of folks here can attribute the start to some change in their life -- for me it was either prolonged stress, meds or losing alot of weight on Atkins. The sensations you describe sound like BFS to me.
I am thankful I never saw the documentary and please don't share the details!
But stay off the Internet!!!!
P.S. I did see some discussion of muscle twitching in a couple of weight lifting forums.
