Neurologist Exam: Results and Report

Hi everyone, I went to see my neurologist on Thursday afternoon (6/18) and he did a full neurological exam (strip down to my boxers deal) and interviewed me prior to this exam about the past 8 months which was the time I saw him in October 2008 for the Bell's Palsy. He did all kinds of stuff like drag a safety pin throughout my body from head to toe, I laid down on my back on he moved my arms and legs around like I was a pretzel, did the push and pull my hands and feet thing to test my strength, and also had me walk back and forth to observe my gait. He said he saw no signs of muscle weakness. His conclusion was that the neuro exam was "normal" and all related to stress and anxiety. Apparently stress can cause this type of crap. In fact he was extremely pleased with my recovery from the Bell's and in fact seemed surprised that my recovery was so quick in just 8 weeks because I had such a severe case. He attributed that to my quick response and the treatment I received right away with the medications. The end recommendation was get more rest (he didn't seem to thrilled about the fact that my full-time and part-time jobs were both VERY stressful in nature). He also said he wants to follow-up with me in 3 months in September. He also saw the Vitamin D results (level was 27) and all he said about that was now that it is Summer here in New England it is time to get outside and get some sun (20 minutes a day). He said the Vitamin D supplements are probably good for the Winter months especially but for the summer getting outside and some exercise is very important. Oh yeah, he also said to stop looking up stuff on the Internet...my wife ratted on me about that.Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated! Thanks, WGP.S......as I sit hear typing this I continue to twitch all over.........this is really weird stuff........

Awesome news!! I guess you dont get to be a superstar...you are stuck with "just BFS" like the rest of us...hope you're not too disapointed. :D) It is time to kick the stress and anxiety and get on with your life...YOU ARE WELL!!!!!!! :D) :D) :D)

Great news WG! No bad stuff and you've healed from BP. Maybe you should change your forum name now :). As many here have found, it is now totally up to you to cope and relieve your stress - take it and run with it! Since your wife ratted on you she has probably noticed you are spending too much time on the computer so maybe you can ask her to now be your exercise buddy to try some stress relieving techniques. It helps to have a buddy as they keep you from slacking; for instance, skipping that yoga class because you're too busy. Wanted to mention that we have had several members (here's a post: ) that have had success becoming less symptomatic by supplementing D. It takes a long time to rebuild your reserves and is slowly absorbed back to normal levels so don't let it go. There's a vitamin D council page - and also the Linus Pauling Institute page. Good luck on continued healing.

Yes, "worriedguy," a new nickname is in order. How about "Cheery Chap," "Glad Guy," "Fortunate Fellow," or "Serene Stud." ;) Blessings, Sue

Thanks everyone....still twitching away.....taking 2000 IUs of Vitamin D every morning. Not really sure if that is enough. Also wondering if I should be adding Magnesium supplements as well??One thing I did notice lately over the past few days is I am now noticing twitching above my left ear (on the same side that I had the Bell's Palsy in the Fall of 2008). The last few days I have been experiencing the most stress I have experienced in months (worried about my job, worried about bills, worried about being there for my family....hence the name worriedguy).Anybody have twitching on head ever?WG

From what I've read - it may take a long time to get your D levels up so be patient with it.Yes, I occasionally get head stuff which I massage to get it to leave (works most of the time). The back of the head - a warm neck wrap helps (apply heat - also begging your spouse for a neck massage is allowed). And watch your posture - head forward can create problems. Haha the worst one was in my ear - really thought I had a bug in there the first few times it happened - back in the days when I was a newbie type. . . .
