Here is the thing...do you want one to ease your mind? My neuro told me that he KNOWS when to do an EMG, but he did one the 2nd visit because he knew I was worried about MND. So dont worry if you get one, but I personally think it would be worse to NOT get one then continue to have symptoms and then think "Man I wish I would have had one". Because if you read our posts, a LOT of us that have emgs STILL worry. The reason for this can be because your neuro does not explain everything like a normal GP, or tell you that you have no other "red flags" that would warrant any further testing. So in my experience my anxiety was finally decreased when my neuro told me that he did my EMGS to ease MY mind, not because he was concerned. So if you want an EMG you can mention that several others you know have had them and you think it would ease your mind. A good guide would be if you are planning on going to the neuro and if he/she says "EMG not needed" and you plan to stay off the internet (including this site) then dont push the EMG. But keep in mind others like myself have had YEARS of changing symptoms, and every little piece of mind goes a long way to making you get over the anxiety of this thing. So if you are already really worried then I would write down your questions BEFORE the appointment, and make sure to ask any question you have thought of. There were times I walked out and not 5 minutes said "oh man I should have asked him about this". But you are going to be fine. I have had a really rough road and was doing the self testing all day long and having EXTREME panic attacks. But just keep in mind that ALS is a disease of weakness and not twitching, and if anyone tells you different they are COMPLETELY wrong. I have been through more than a dozen clinical exams, 3 full emg's and 2 neuros. This is very common and very irritating, but hang in there! It will get to where you can manage it and hopefully your symptoms will decrease soon. Best of luck!
