Navigating Unpredictability of BFS

All-

I have been enjoying a relatively symptom free stretch for quite a few weeks now, so the fact that I've returned to a heavy twitching/achy/wobbly legs week this week is a major downer. However, I'm taking it in stride - I think with BFS you know you'll likely never be "cured" permanently, and that helps you savor the "good days" even more.

The purpose for this message, though, is that with all of this I've now started experiencing a new sensation - feelings of heat of cold all over my body, and more troubling, the sensation of my foot/leg falling asleep that comes and goes, comes and goes, with a lot of mild twitching going on in the calf simultaneously. I can still walk fine (although the whole leg feels really wobbly, which is NOT a new sensation), but it sure does bug me and freak my out a little to feel my lower leg twitch and go in and out of that asleep feeling all day.

For the two days prior, I had a little pain and stiffness in that leg, particularly in the calf. That seems to have subsided and has been replaced with this now.

I'm SURE there are many posts in here that speak to this in some way, but my searches turned up little - anyone who can sympathize/relate who might want to send some encouraging words my way? I've really taken some good, solid "mental steps forward" with this whole thing, and this site/group could really be a big help in keeping me from going back into "the dark place"...

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I can sympathize with the leg falling asleep that comes and goes. I can have it in a few toes for a few seconds or a few hours, it could be the whole foot, just the underneath of the foot, etc. The twitching in my feet comes and goes also and I also get alternating bouts with a buzzing sensation in my feet/ankles and the twitching. I have began to notice that it happens many times for me after being on my feet for a long length of time,or when I am having lower back problems but there are still times when it just "happens". As for the wobbling legs, the only sensation similar for me is I just feel like they are shakey and could give out at any time, but it also passes.

Keep the positve mental attitude, thats the most important, you're fine, just a tiny setback, and you'll soon be back on top!

Hi JG,

I was wondering where you went! Glad to hear you enjoyed a fairly symptom free time. Bummer these new sensations have come up. I think this can be common to BFS--as well as in any ol' average person. It could simply be a case of nerve irritation. Maybe your hip joints have changed a little bit (we all age, right??) and it's putting some pressure on the nerves.

I've had the falling asleep sensation in my leg before, and my doc wasn't worried, but ordered an MRI to rule out MS. Have you had this test yet? I can't remember...but if you haven't, it might be worth looking into with your doc.

The hot and cold could be adrenal or hormonal too...or simply part of BFS. If you end up seeing your doc about this stuff, keep us posted. I'm sure it's nothing of concern. Stay in the 'good place'.
