Mystery Symptoms Diagnosis Needed

So I've been having...something for nearly four months now. So far, every symptom I've experienced I've seen described on here: Random Twitching (which actually doesn't bother me at all and is uncommon), shuddering muscles during coordinated motions, sensations of stiffness and tightness in the hands and fingers, and random muscle and joint pain. But a few weeks ago, when I first began to notice this odd sensation of tension in my left hand (when at rest, my fingers seemed compelled to curl into a claw shape), I tried out the "Hoffmann Reflex" and to my surprise, I noticed the tip of my index finger flexing slightly as I tapped the middle fingernail. I got anxious of course, but a bit later on I tried it again and it seemed to be gone. But over the last couple of weeks since then, I've been having a harder time ignoring these feelings in my hands (both of them now). And recently I tried it again, and most of the time I can illicit the reflex in my index finger. The most troubling thing of all is that I tried to do it to my other (right) hand, but nothing happens. So whether or not I'm doing it correctly (I'm pretty sure I am), something asymmetrical seems to be happening, and I've heard nothing but bad things about that.Thoughts (other than "Don't Self-Test" )?

Do not do self test still. For two reasons:1. There is a reason for doctor to do the test. Self test for reflexes can not be indicative because we might even unconsciousely change our responses. Self-induces sensations differ significantly from what other person hand causes, same for reflexes. Self-test for reflexes might not be indicative.2. We in BFS often have brisk reflexes, therefore some of them could mimick pathological ones. PLUS - no one 'sign' or reflex can not be of clinical significance alone - it should be accompanied by other signs. As you probably have no idea how the whole picture should look like, please do not make any conclusion on the basis of one accidenatl transient issue found by selftest.Self testing is more or less accepted - and strongly adviced by doctors - maybe only in women for possbile breast issues, and even in that case many women can find SOMETHING which in fact is a mammal gland lobe slightly increased, or they do the test incorrectly and become crazy. Reflexes and their correct evaluation is even much more sophisticated than breast examination, so still please do not do self-test for reflexes or at least do not get scared with them ;)

The BFS guide to self testing: Don't.Especially for Hoffmann's reflex: That one occasionally occurs even in healthy people and is often positive in very anxious persons.

Do not read too much into it. As twitchplaysp said it can happen in anxious amd healthy people. I had positive hoffman as well as Matt and maybe a couple of others. We are all ok!

Yep. I had positive Hoffmans in my right hand. So did a few others on the chat. I asked Mayo about it and the doctor just shrugged saying it doesn't mean anything. As they said above, it can just be a sign of anxiety. -Matt

*looks up ALS symptoms**reads something about abnormal reflexes. *Reads stuff about those reflexes and how to self-test*starts hitting the knee until its blue*starts pricking left foot to check for babinski.Yes, im still alive after 4 years. Dont worry.
