Myoclonic Jerks: Seeking Help

hi

this is a first time post for me

ive had afew neuro problems for a while now. I wont go into great detail but i paid to see a private neuro for these problems (including fsciculations, "insect-crawly-feeling", burning in arm, tingling)

But the big problem was these jerks i have been having. From what i have read on a here a few of you have myoclonic jerks (ranging from a single digit to a hand or arm). I happen to get those too but i did not classify them as myoclonic jerks. I also get the sleep-starts or hypnic jerks mentioned here. Again, im not bothered about them.

anyway the private neuro said he didnt know what the jerks were (implied i was making them up) but diagnosed me with bfs.

the bfs doesnt bother me unless it keeps me awake! so im not too bothered about it. But i do want to know if any of you get similar jerks to me that i will detail below:

at first a gp diagnosed these as myoclonic jerks. The neuro disagreed. i dont trust either of them ;)

about 1 or 2 second preceeding the jerk i will have a strange sensation in my shoulders, arms and upper back. it is quite unnerving and feels like a tensing up or a thin-spread static impulse. Then i will jerk/shudder involuntarily. both my arms but in particular my lesft arm will fly up to chin level and my neck will often go back. my eyes usually sut.

i believe i have always had these for as long as i can remember but they have changed recently. Most people feel the shudder of someone stepping on their grave but these shudders are more dramatic and occur 5-10 times a day. On some days i will only have one or two but experienec the strange static sensation many times during the day.

anyone else have these.

Same but in my hands. It use to be my left calf then my right bicep. Tomorrow it can be my right calf! Who know where it will move to. Yeap, I am in the same boat as you are! I also get this static feeling but as you can guess is mostly concentrated in my hands at this point in time. Somwetimes I get it in my toes. Except the tensing sensation never goes away!

myoclonic jerks are common in the first stages of bfs.. most common is the nocternal myoclonus .. this is when your on the verge of sleep an arm or leg will jolt in the air causing you to wake up.. and it wont let you sleep because it happens over and over again.. what you are expierancing is benign .. and it is real. any neuro should know this.. i suggest seeing a different doctor.. klonopin is a drug that will stop those jerks.. i havent had any since

I took Klonopin for 3 days only and when I got my neuro appointment the next week, my doc said to stop using it right away. He said 0.5 mg for 5 days should get rid of the sleep starts. It worked for me. More than 5 days can become a problem if you want to stop after.
