Myoclonic Jerks: Common & Normal

Those are called myoclonic jerks. I've had those all my life, and they seem to have become more frequent over the past few months when my twitching started -- I sometimes get whole body jerks. They are a very commonly reported occurence on this board and are nothing to worry about.

ETA: I don't get large twitches like then when I'm fully awake -- yet *g* -- but many other people here report large, visible twitches and jerks when they're awake.

Maudlin,

Thank you so much. I will breath a bit easier. I did forget to mention this happened once when I wasn't on the verge of sleep, also. Is this normal too? Thanks again. I'll sleep better tonight :p

Gin,

I think Myoclonic jerks are stress related. I read that somewhere...I also read that your body is misreading the signal of going to sleep as one of dying, and so your body is trying to volt you back alive. Does that make sense? Anyway...I get big jerks when I am awake, too. It used to scare me, but then I realized that just before an arm or leg jerks, I feel a sharp pain, like a hot needle being stuck into my skin, and I realized it was my body reacting to that. I chalk it all up to BFS. No worries, darlin.

awwww those wonderful myoclonic jerks.....back in the day. then i asked my doctor if klonopin was right for me..klonopin(clonazapam) not only cures your myclonic jerks...but can also reduce your anxiety and twitching, buzzing, pins and needles..and you can wake up rested and refreshed..without those lousy side affects of anti-depressants. klonopin is not right for everyone. ask your doctor if klonopin is right for you. side effects include good mood, relaxation, and proper sleep. do not drink alcohol while on klonopin,, you wont need it..women who are nursing or pregnant should not use klonopin, klonopin can be addictive so only take ONE pill at bedtime for bfs////ok enough

I usd to get them all the time, especially when I was falling asleep...Now that you bring them up, I guess I don't anymore. Must be normal with us BFS types?
