Myoclonic Jerks and Twitching Symptom

Hello,Question to run by all you experts: The twitching began in my hand and has now spread to both arms and legs (and occasionally elsewhere) In the last couple weeks I've had some new symptoms. When I lay down to go to sleep I get mild tremors in my fingers. They wake me from sleep and only last 10-15 seconds. I also keep getting myoclonic jerks?? My whole arm will move or my hand or my entire leg. It happened for hours last night - it totally kept me from sleeping. When I read the definition of fasciculations on the Net it always talks about a twitch in a small voluntary muscle group - not jerking movements of the entire limb. Of course, this makes me worried about P-sons and such. Does anyone else experience the jerking/increased twitching tremoring when trying to fall asleep? Thanks,Wendy

Not sure if anyone else has these symptoms here, but I definitely get what are basically 'sleep starts' when falling asleep. Occasionally, I will get these when awake, but most of these 'sleep starts' happen when I'm drifting off to sleep in bed. My whole body will jerk or flinch, as if something scared me. It's very strange. I'm on gabapentin, and it has been less frequent, but this weekend was bad with the 'sleep starts' Anyone else have those? The only jerkiness of whole limbs that I get is a vibration in the leg. The whole leg will quiver and vibrate internally. This is not constant and actually doesn't happen very often. I've chalked that up to BFS.-Ant

WWMM,In the first six months I had these jerks as well and it was not just falling asleep. The jeks were so powerful that they would violently wake me up. One night they kept me up all night long. I began to take a mild muscle relaxant and somnetime klonopin. This would at least let me sleep through the night. I have not had these violent jerking movement for the past 7 months, so for me they waned over time. I know these things can be very scary, but at least for me they passed over time...steve

Thanks for the responses. When you experienced the violent jerking would it be your whole body or did you ever have it happen in just one limb? (Meaning one minute my left leg would jerk, then a few minues later my right arm, and then I'd wake up to my fingers moving around.) It really is frightening and very unnerving - I'm just praying that tonight isn't as bad.

Mine resemble more of an entire body jolt. The best way to describe it is as a body flinch. As if someone made like they were going to hit or punch you, and your body contracts and flinches... that's a good description of it. Similar to the feeling you get when you think you're falling in your sleep. I would definitely call it a 'sleep start'.-Ant
