My Tongue and Face Tremoring Worries

Lord, with all my other symptoms now I look at my tongue sticking out and it quivers a lot, some more than others depending how i hold it but tremors. Plus my face does some tremor too when i stick out tongue or open mouth wide. I am really worried as I have twitches, tons of pain in arms and legs that comes and goes depending on what i try to do which is not that much these days. Looks like I some muscle loss in both arms as they look wrinkled especially on underside. Leg hurt in calves when I walk over 10-15 minutes, feet and go numb in toes and on the botom. All this has come on since July. I am about over the edge now. My wonderful sweet wife does not want to hear more as it just scares her too. I had an office visit with neuro doctor last month and based on offcie tests thought I was Ok and looked at my tongue. He also asked if there was tremor in the family so maybe he saw something. The thing is all the pain I have jhad and the sensory stuff is not right for ALS so what in the world? Mys first symtom was pain in my arms, then tingling, pins and needles, and numberness and burning, then twtiching and spasm, then fatigue, then muscle loss, and so on to the tongue and tremor now.. Seems like prayer is all I have these days. I really appreciate you guys and who else know the fear of all this like you. George

My tongue quivers like crazy when I stick it out and has the 2 1/2 years that I have been twitching(maybe longer but I never really stuck it out before). It moves like crazy. I believe that some peoples tongue just moves more than others.

You ask "what in the world?" The answer is tattooed all over the place here...BFS. Everything you describe is part of BFS. Just to echo the others as to the trembling tongue thing. First off, tongue twitching is common with BFS. Second, what you describe is not tongue twitching as it is tongue movement that occurs while flexing (sticking out the tongue). I can't hold my tongue still when I stick it out. It moves all over the place. I also had as part of my emg, a needle stuck through my chin and into my tongue. The emg machine crackled with noise. I freaked out and the doc said, "you're not relaxing your tongue." Its a muscle that's almost impossible to totally relax, so the movement your seeing is totally totally normal.

But mine if I try and hold it still has like quivers moving in it. That is so frighting and i do not think it was like that when i went to the doc but I am not sure.I have never had so much fear in my life and I had terrible heart flutters for liek two years but this is more scary to me. Thanks for the support.

I have tongue twitching that I can feel not see. Whenever I go to a neuro (I've seen six), the want to see my tongue resting inside my mouth. They never ask me to stick it out. If there was something relevant to be noticed from a tongue sticking out by someone who has tongue twitching, I think they would ask me to stick out my tongue but they don't. I even saw info on the Internet for healthcare providers about doing a basic physical and it said that when a person sticks out their tongue and it quivers this is normal and to not record it as abnormal.

Any tongue on this planet twitch!REAL fascics in tongue cant be missed by your GP, as they are so very easy to detect. If you are worried about that, its pretty easy to go to the GP and ask him to take a look at your tongue. 30 seconds after he will tell you that it is normal. I tried that myself and it helped. Good luck.

George, Everyone else has already told you, but I am going to tell you again. EVERYONE's (not just BFS'ers) tongues twitch when you stick it out. The day it stops doing that, is the day you should worry. If you dont believe me, go around asking people to stick their tongues out & watch. I'm being serious, you will soon realize how silly you are being. Now, I know you are scared, but this tongue thing, really is nothing.~*~Amy~*~

I think we all go for the "tongue quivers" scare. It is part of the process. Nothing unique. Search the archives and you will see many, many posts on this topic. I may have posted one myself. I think there was a period of a few weeks where I spent lots of time staring at my tongue. That was months ago and I'm still fully functional.
