My Toes Can't Spread Unevenly?

I'm not sure how mobile toes are supposed to be, and am going to stay away from searching it on the internet.

On my left foot, I can spread my big toe and my little toe. On my right foot, I can only spread my big toe. I can clench and release all toes on my own, but I just noticed that I cannot spread my little toe of my right foot.

Is this normal at all? I've been twitching for about 3 weeks and was juyst starting to calm down about it all. Now, I suddenly realize this. I'm terrified. Can anyone talk some sense into me? Please?

Thanks.

I have different levels of dexterity in both my hands and my feet. I think it's pretty natural. My feet and toes have been twitching a lot at nights as well. There are so many factors that play into things like this. Nothing on our bodies is perfectly symmetrical and sometimes our left side doesn't know what our right side is doing ;) relax my friend. Think of it this way ... try throwing a baseball with your right hand and then your left. Then you'll notice that your left arm throw (if you're right handed) will be much worse. Because you never exercised those muscles in quite the same way as you did your right. Ever notice that your shoes don;t always wear evenly on the soles? because each leg and foot operate differently on different sides of your body.

Thanks to both of you for the responses.

Tewest: I've only posted here a few times and each time you manage to help me feel better. Thanks. I believe that you mentioned somewhere that you have anxiety? If I'm right, I never would have guessed. You always seen so rational and normal (unlike me).

I'm not sure if my toes have always been like this or not, but for some reason I randomly decided to test them. Of course, the ouside toes of one foot spread as I expect them to. Then I try the other and my little toe will absolutely not move at all in a horizontal/spread movement, only clench and unclench. This of course wa quickly followed by me completely panicking.

Going against what I KNEW I shouldn't do, I searched for things such as "toe unable to spread". No results even remotely matching anything I searched. Should have just left it at that and been satisfied that nothing terrible popped up, but I'm still freaked out, thinking this is just the very beginning of something such as **S, and the muscle used for that motion no longer works or something similar.

Anyone else unable to spread their little toe on just one foot? Anything similar? I would still greatly appreciate any thoughts or advice. Thanks.

I can't spread my little toe on either foot. I highly doubt this is A/L/S related, much as I have concerns about the brisk reflex in my left ankle.

The muscles in our toes, in particular, are very poorly developed. If your toes can resist pressure applied to the first "knuckle", you're fine. Do not apply pressure to anything higher—I doubt anybody's toes would resist. And don't expect a lot of resistance 'cause those muscles aren't all that strong. All they have to do is lift your toes, which doesn't take much muscle....

I love knowing that I am not the only one that does all of these weird "tests"! I can spread all of my toes on my right foot which is the leg that bothers me the most. On the left foot I cant spread my little toe either. Hope that helps!

You are not alone in being irrational and abnormal. I am right there with you  . Hey, maybe we are all the normal ones and everyone else is "abnormal" .

Glad I could help you feel better my friend. It is only recently that I ahve been able to think rationally though. I have done ALL of the tests, believe me and I can;t tell you how much of a difference I find in my body. My stronger leg has smaller quadraceps than my weaker one, and so on. My left hand is much stronger than my right but I am right handed ... I used to spend up to 3 hours every day researching every little tidbit of information and I found that for every comforting thing I found a little seed of doubt would be planted from something else I read. So, I just stopped doing it. I've been twitching for over 7 months now so I've had enough tim to realize that I don't have ALS but it wasn;t that way at first. We all go through this and I'm glad we can all be here to help you. You're OK ... really ...
