My Story of 17 Years With BFS

I first posted on an earlier version of this forum about 14 years ago. I first started twitching 17 years ago, after experiencing a sort of low grade virus that made me tired. I was teaching with another teacher who had twitching eyelids. Not too long after than I also had twitching eyelids.BFS is probably caused by antibodies that were created in response to a virus or other low grade illness, and the antibodies attack the nervous system and irritate it, sort of a low grade type of multiple sclerosis.Cramps, fasics, parasthesias, I have had them all. And I yet I still abide. And so does this forum, albeit in many forms and locations.

Wow! Thanks for coming back and giving us newer twitchers some comfort from your story. I am teacher too and have had this stuff for two years. I agree with your assessment of where it may come from but it is just my somewhat educated instinct.

I first developed twitching and paresthesias back in the late 80's.So I guess that makes me an old timer, too.I have never had an abnormality on exam or any medical test.I saw several neurologists at the beginning. But lately I have not been actively seeking out doctors.I had a normal exam by my PCP at the time 4 years ago.I had a normal brain MRI (without contrast) 3 years ago and a normal Cspine MRI 18 months ago.I have not had an EMG or nerve conduction test since the 90's.I no longer worry about ALS. Interesting that you described this as a low level MS. I still worry about having a benign form of MS given the parasthesias and muscle fatiguing that I get.I have been able to do most things that I have wanted to do. I did a 20 mile hike 4 years ago with my son.Lately I have had some increased symptoms. I could always attribute it to stress because I have a stressful job and my wife has serious chronic illness.I have an appointment with my PCP to discuss.Just wanted to chime in because of being an old timer.Comments or questions are appreciated.Glad to hear from another oldtimer, Napolean. Interested to hear more about your story (either on this forum or private message)

Its good to see a twitcher with 17years under his belt I tell ya.Very good to see indeed.Mild variations are all the rage today...first tourettes and now ms.Keep em mild I say!The milder the better.Im tired today...I wonder if sleep is a mild variation of death...*is now unable to sleep*Darragh
