My Story: Fasciculations & Ocular Migrain

This is my story...I am 34 years old athletic man. Well, started like 3 years ago, I started experiencing fasciculations all over my body. and the index finger on my left hand would tremble sometimes after I would exercise my hands muscles. I went to a neurologist and he had and MRI with and w/o contrast and all came negative for any lesions. Also, 4 years ago I got diagnosed with ocular migraines. When this occurs I loose vision in one eye for 20 mins or so and then a get a severe headache for 3 days and then it goes away. So after 2 negatives MRIs and a negative EMG I decided that it was all attributed to my body asking me to slow down. the fingers and fasciculations were very seldom until now. I started working night shift again a 8 months ago and have 2 kids, so I try to switch from night shift schedule (when I work) to dayshift schedule (when I dont work), hence I sometimes dont sleep more than 5 or 6 hours a day. 3 weeks ago my left leg began buzzing in like 2 seconds intervals, and my lower back hurting also I noticed that the fasciculations were more frequent, my tongue would have a weird sensation, my eyelids tremble and recently when I am sleeping I feel that my left leg is shaking on the inside, but doesn't look like it shakes at all on the outside. My left leg does not buzz anymore. I have good balance, my strength is the same, my walk is the same, though sometimes i feel my left leg is weak. Not dragging a foot and my arms swing fine. I sometimes feel dull pain inside both of my hamstrings but it goes away when i move my legs. I had another MRI done 2 weeks ago and it also came negative for any lesions or abnormalities. I have no visible tremors anywere as well. Recently went to my GP also bc I had the sensation I needed to pee right after I gone peeing and he diagnosed me with prostatitis. I am currently treating it with antibiotics. Still feel my left leg trembles on the inside. My right side feel perfectly normal. I am extremely worried about all of this and I guess its making it worse. So this is me in a nutshell, PD or BFS? this is driving me crazy, its pretty much affecting my moods and behavior. Need help and some re-assurance.Thanks in advance for your posts!

With all those diagnostic tests, I'd say you have nothing to worry about and it doesn't sound at all like Parkinsons. It sounds to me like serious serious lack of restorative sleep issues. Your body can get depleted with this kind of long term lack of sleep. Add to that a totally odd work schedule that further throws things off as well as having young kids and its no wonder you're twitching, buzzing and having odd symptoms. Stress won't help any of this. I'd put the bad stuff out of your mind now that you've been to a doc repeatedly and start focusing on things like sleep, stress, etc. Just like driving a car nonstop in bad heat or cold without changing the oil or keeping up maintenance can wreck an engine, so to can running yourself ragged like this. It all adds up over time. Just my two cents. I'm 36 by the way and also have two kids and a very hectic schedule. I feel way worse when i go a few weeks burning the candle at both ends and not getting sleep and rest. My twitching really goes bonkers and then the anxiety creeps in and it just compounds everything. Must be something with hitting the mid-30s because there's a few of us here who seem to have had our bodies suddenly say enough to all the stress and busy lifestyles and suddenly break out with the major twitching.

Did you ask any of the neurologists you saw about Parkinsons disease? I do not know much about it but I have many of the same symptoms as you (but probably worse -- more persistent and systemic). None of the 6 neurologists I've seen have even mentioned Parkinsons despite knowing my symptoms and I have had hours long conversations with them about what could possibly be going on with me. I would be curious if you have had a discussion about PD and how it presents. I have always thought it would involve body shaking that others would notice. I just had my third MRI yesterday. I have had one of the brain, one of the lumbar spine, and now one of the neck. They never find anything connected to my systemic fasciculations but MRI just seem like a prudent thing to do just in case. I mention the MRI because I have had the same tech each time. He told me yesterday that I produce the cleanest images he has ever seen because I am able to stay so still. I feel internal shaking and trembling but apparently my body is not actually moving.
