My Left Thigh Twitching Nonstop

The back of my left thigh has been twitching for hours and is driving me crazy (er) also, I have noticed when I am walking that I am getting some numb spots on my calves and one of my thighs. Anyone else every experience anything like this? My thigh won't stop and I have never had a twitch like this it is like a heart beat. I am now, once again sure I have ALS. I have also notice my left calve look more define then the right. Is this too normal? I have a freind that says it is so I believe her for now.

HELP!!!

Going CRAZY!!!!!!

I also have a leg that is more defined alot of us do, meaning people that dont have BFS do. Maybe you never noticed it before? Twitching is normal to have continuously also. Hon we were just talking today about how are twitches are like heart beats mine do that all the time. When I first started with BFS I got numbness when I walked right above my knee and when I was walking with my mother I would tell her a spot on my leg is numb and she would tell me so what, keep going because your muscles are not weak you can move so keep moving.

How long have you had BFS? Have you seen a Dr.? I am sorry I dont know your history...

God Bless..Jenn

Hi Jen,

Thank you for the reply. He goes the history. Last summer I hired a trainer and was low carb and working out since I gained a good bit a weight when I stopped smoking. I noticed after a hard work out that my muscles were twitching. I also had extreme anxiety. So, I Google. Then I figured I for sure had ALS. I called my neuro and he said he didn't think it really warranted a visit. So, my GP did blood work and the wacking of my knee and pulling my hands and the general neuro tests and said I was fine that my anxiety may have something to do with it. So, it has now been over a year and I still worry about ALS. I saw a specialist in a different field last week and he told me he had the same twitching that I did and he too being a doc thought he may have had ALS and it was BFS. To humor me he did the rountine and says it is BFS. He too doesn't think that I should waste money on a neuro-That after this much time I would have had some weakness. Then a few days ago I am walking and a numb spot comes to the side of my calve. Then the other. Now my thigh. So, I am back to freaking out. I also think I hurt my back and am wondering if this may be causing the leg trouble and numb spots. And they are just that spots. They go as fast as they come. Very strange. So, I am healthy minus the twitching and the brain fry. I also have a dent in my leg that comes and goes and I assume it is wasting.
I have never until today had the heartbeat twitch-for hours. I thought I was going to the funny farm I was so scared. Well, I think I have gone on and on. Thank you again for the reply.

Kym,
Sweetie both Dr.'s told you that you have BFS. AND THE BIG ONE..you have had this for a year..seeing that ALS will cause death in 2-5 years you certainly would know it....Honey you dont have ALS really. I dont care if your leg is more defined or not..you dont have ALS..(I dont mean literally I dont care) this is been going on for a year. ALS does not just hang out for a year and then you get it.

I was also on a very low carb diet before my BFS because I was getting hives and allergies so I was staying away from alot of foods...

Listen it is very normal to have continous twitches..My whole back twitches nonstop all the time..I think it has stopped for a matter of 1/2 day in 7 months..I know alot of people on this board that have same thing. Right now behind my knee which is a new spot is like this fluttering sensation almost like a circulation feeling. buzzing and it keeps doing it..all day..It is very normal for BFS patients to have this..I promise you are ok..stay with us and vent out here..God Bless you..Jenn

I got a twitch exactly like you're describing on the left side of my chest just under my arm which went on for a whole day, then it went away and hasn't been back since. I get all sorts of strange twitches in my thighs and calves - numb spots, too. When I press down on my calves, they have a tendency to be sore at times.

You don't have ALS. It is BFS. I know the feeling - it is like being terrorized at times but you're in good company here in this forum. We all get things like you're describing.

Take it easy and God Bless,
Mark

My twitch that made me google and freak out was the heartbeat one, too. In my upper thigh. Twitched non stop for about two day, then stopped, but little random ones here and there. Then it came back about a week later, and of course I freaked out again. Stayed for about another two days. That was about 8 months ago.

You're fine. You don't have ALS. Like the others said, lots of us had/have those continuous heartbeat twitches for days, weeks, etc.

Yo Kim,

No offense, but you might be better off seeing a psychiatrist than a neurologist. It sounds to me like you are suffering from fear of ALS more than just having twitches. A lot of us fear ALS, even I do, but I can tell from your posts that if you have:

1. Been twitching over 1 year, and
2. Still have no clincial/debilitating weakness

then the odds are way way way in your favor that you are A-OK. Stress/anxiety is a silent killer, and once I think you clear up your fears, you will do fine. Stress/anxitey/depression CAN make you twitch and cause cramps, etc., as it creates chemical imbalances in the body.

I just hit my 9 week twitching anniversary, and have been doing a lot better, especially after realizing that I probably dont have ALS, but just BFS because I still have no clinical weakness. And anyway, isn't the weakness usually before the twitching anyway? ;)

Thank You all for your support. And V, I do see some one for the anxiety and it helps here and there. Sometimes I am fine. It is when new symptoms come along that I freak out. I am also guessing the numb spots are a pulled muscle in the back.

You guys are all so great.

Jen, You are so sweet and caring. Thank you!
