My First EMG: Worried?

So, 4 days ago I got my first EMG in both arms and legs. The doctor who performed it said I was fine - nothing to worry about but 2 days after that I noticed that my right shoulder/arm/hand feels kinda week and fatigues more easily that my left one. For example If I extend my arm and hold a 1,5 litre water bottle in the air for a period of time my right hand feels like it's " burning ", more than my left one. Yesterday I mentioned that to my neuro and and after a clinical stregth test he found nothing wrong. My twitches have subsided quite a lot though but I'm still worried. I know that this isn't reasonable but I can't help it. He also prescribed me some meds for my health anxiety but I'm only 22 years old and I feel kinda weird talking anxiety medication so early. So now [ according to my neuro ] I gotta take the anxiety meds, never ever search medical stuff online and see him again in 40 days. I know that a clean EMG is a good sign but that persistend [ 3 days now ] week feeling in my arm is messing with my head again .. Has anyone experienced that burning/week feeling for several days ?

I know exactly what you mean. I'm twitching now for 10 months and also had clean clinical exam and EMG. My neuro also told me not to worry, stay of the internet and work on the health anxiety thing.Since it all started I have weak feelings in arms and legs. They do get tired sooner than they used to in the past. But during the 10 months that have passed now, I found that these weak feelings come and go. And I'm pretty sure that that will also be the case for you.It is not pleasant, but it is part of the exercise intolerance that comes with BFS.So, trust your neuro (he has studied for it, you not ;)) and don't try to perform silly strength tests...A bit off topic, but a while ago I read an old post that showed how silly the strength tests are that we all do or used to do.It is by zEarthyRanger and already posted on 17 May 2005. It made me laugh so hard that I was happy to be alone at that time in my room...I'm sure nobody minds me to repeat the post:==============Noticed that someone had raised the idea of a BFS mini-conference in Las Vegas. While I think its an excellent idea, I did make myself smile by imagining the nightmare scenario where everyone is having a "bad day" at the same time. I'm sure you're not all as bad as me, but if you are then picture the scene... You arrive late at the restaurant where everyone is supposed to be meeting up, and say to the maitre D: "I'm looking for the BFS party." He waves a weary arm over to a table where, to your horror you see: *Two people stroking the soles of each others naked feet, while a third watches to make sure the toes point down *Someone else striking a dining fork on the table before holding it to each hand little finger, saying "I'm sure I can't feel it as much with my left." *Another holding two plates with identical main courses in outstretched arms while her neighbour sits opposite with a stopwatch *A man at the end of the table who has whipped out a laptop computer and is trying to Google an obscure article he's heard about that mentions a Fijian fisherman in the 1930s twitching for 40 years before being diagnosed with ***. With growing horror you watch a 225lbs champion bodybuilder get up from the table and "heel walk" to the toilets, re-emerging a couple of minutes later and "toe walking" back to the table. Desparately fighting the urge to run out of the room, you walk over to the only sane-looking person at the table and shake her hand. "Does that feel weak to you?" she says.==============looking at all this from a distance really shows how weird we all are behaving, doesn't it?Cheers and you'll be fine.

I can definately see my self in a couple of situations described in that post ! Bringing it all to mind, it's funny as hell ! Right, I really do hope my muscle fatigue is the " comes and goes " type. Truth is that for the last couple of days my twitches had subsided to 2 - 3 twitches per day. This morning when I thought " what if the fatigue is weekness I misinterpret " or " what if the EMG was wrong " the twitches started all over my body so I had a " genius " moment when I thought " what if I have BFS and *** at the same time " another panic/stress attack and all I know I'm twitching all over again ..

5 Days .. The arm fatigue/stiffness is still there .. Twitching has subsided to a 60 % of my baddest day so far but twitching doesn't scare me as much as it used to be. This feeling of fatigue is killing me despite the clean EMG and clinical exams because it's not all over my body, it's located to my right arm and [ not so much ] to my right foot. Twitches prefer my right side too [ not that the left side doesn't twitch ]. Started taking some benzo my neuro prescribed but no difference so far ..

practically benzo would not relive you from feeling of fatigue which might be of very natural origin. Benzodiazepines just make you a bit less reactive in the central processor but do not change nothing in your muscle membranes. fstigue or load intolerance might stay for weeks until resolved or migrated somwherer else.

Hi Mechanic, I had some extreme fatigue and stiffness in my arms for a few months. Seems to be quite common with bfs so no need to worry. Hope it will subside soon for you.

I have had this fatiguecin ma arms/ shoulders for months before it went away. I was not able to blowdry my hair and even had issues keeping my arms up during driving.

Just the week before I had an EMG my left shoulder was extremely tired. It felt really difficult to raise my left arm. Then during the EMG the neuro did investigate some muscles and all was clear. But he didn't test the shoulder muscle where at that moment I really felt weak in.So I asked him if he could also put a needle in the shoulder. I wished I never had asked him  By that time he had already disposed of the needle and needed to get a new one.He did it of course because the entire purpose of this EMG was to ease my mind (he didn't find it necesary at all). But I could really feel his develish side  when he really, and I mean really, poked this one needle extra hard in my shoulder, haha.Of course the shoulder was also fine.So Mechanic, indeed, it can take some time (weeks, months) but in my experience these fatigued feelings will move on to a next spot. I sometimes think it is some physical Law Of Constant Fatigueness. If it is not in the arm, it is in the leg, etc. Just give it some time.

Thank you all for replying ! Well, after reading your posts I feel relieved cause I had in mind that the bfs fatigue usually lasts a day and I was worried that mine [ been there for 5 days now ] is different somehow. I have the same issue, when driving my right arm feels kinda sore after a period of time in the steering wheel - changing gears though doesn't affect it at all   @SecretAgendMan You're absolutely correct, for some reason, at the time I thought that a clean EMG is what I needed and I wouldn't doubt it. I was wrong though. I think I should work on my health anxiety thing cause that's what makes me sick.

Gosh, I could barely walk, climb stairs, arise from a seated position, or drive a car for nearly four months, and also could not stand in the shower unattended, (which my hubby loved, lol.) Buttoning my shirt, holding small writing implements, forks, knives, etc, typing on a computer and dialing the phone were exceedingly difficult, too. What I would have given for a few days of fatigue in one limb! Oy. :) You are in good company. I used to marvel at the folks who had fascics and little, or no "perceived" weakness, (always hated that term,) though I'm sure that everyone suffers plenty in their own personal hell with this nutty condition. No worries. Everything you've described is quite common around here. :) Blessings, Sue
