Muscle Twitching and Contractions

Hi everyone!

Just wondering if you any of you guys have experienced this:

My twitching has gone from small little bursts to having my whole right quadrocept (sp.?) muscle move for minutes or even hours. And recently my abdomine (just under my ribs) will hold a contraction for a few seconds, then repeat. Usually on just one side, but both sides do it. Ususally when I'm sitting kind of hunched forward at my desk. All other twitching is pretty mild, I almost don't notice it. But these are new, and seem different, almost like they are on a larger scale. Has anyone else's twitches changed or appear different?

Also now BOTH of my eyes are twitching. I'm in sales, and I could be talking to someone, and both eyes will start twitching out of sync with each other. I must look like a real "psycho"!!! I'm glad I can laugh about it.

Love to hear your stories! ;)

kim...I can especially relate to the eye twitches(although I've experienced the others in some capacity). I had several weeks where both of my eyes twitched non stop(or so it seemed). It went away for a while but still comes back every so often. I'm in the music industry. I play for a band and these eye twitches occured right when we were recording our live DVD. By the grace of God, the twitches went away for the 3 hours that we were recording...and then came back afterwards.
How have your aches and pains been? Exercise intolerance?
hope you feel better!

I have the twitching in my quads. Mine will grab the large portions of the muscles and flex it for me. These are very rapid to slow twitches. They scared the daylights out of me the first time. Sometimes it is like it shakes the whole quad and others just grab the whole thing and twitch like crazy. (Usually really fast) I don't know about you, but when I get the real bad ones, they don't stop as I walk around. They continue to twitch. Most of my other twiches stop with any activity in the muscles. Anyway - I have had these last for several hours real bad / and linger for days, but not with the same intesity. I have not have a bad bout of this for a couple months. I had an EMG and the doc saw the twitches in my quads on the EMG. He said they are fine and nothing to worry about. Thankfully. Anyway - Do not let it bother you. Especially the eye twitches are GREAT. They are definately not characteristic of ALS. Hang in there.

I have the eye twitches very often. Right now as I am typing this my left eye is twitching. The good news is that eye twitching is very common and is usually caused by stress/lack of enough sleep...the bad news is that the eye twitches are very annoying. I have had them in both eyes at the same time but usually it's one or the other.

As for big twitches that seem to move/hold big muscles, I can relate. This past week in particular I've been experiencing that. They actually slightly move an arm or hand and I feel them in my quads. When I work out the twitches generally get worse and then a few hours later they fade again. I don;t think they are caused by stress but I think stress certainly can make them worse. I know for me, this week has been very stressful. The thing is, is that sometimes I cant figure out if the twitches are causing me to stress or the stress is causing the twitches.

Hang in there with it.

Thanks guys!

This whole thing is such a mystery to me. It's only been 6 months, so I am still a little freaked by it at times when it seems different. But I am getting used to it. I have no choice it seems.

Are any of you on anti depressants? I am. I think my Zoloft really helps me deal with this. I know for a fact that my twitching causes my stress/anxiety, and now I kind of have a "i don't give a s*** attitude toward them.

Javens - I don't get much pain or cramping. Only a few times in my left arm. I also don't exercise, so can't comment on that. I used to be an aerobics instructor until 2 years ago. But I got a new job that keeps me really long hours and I don't have the time anymore. Besides, I'm 40 and I only weigh 110 lbs. Things are starting to head south that used to be north, but I'm holding on!
