Muscle Pain & Stiffness in Upper Back

Lately, I've been experiencing muscle pain & stiffness in my upper back (neck through the bottom of rib cage, shoulder to shoulder) which, at its worst, feels like my whole back had been used as a punching bag by Mike Tyson. It will last for a day or two, die back down and return again. The pain seems totally out of line with the level of twitching I have in my back which is rather light and sporadic. Sometimes, it seems to effect my chest wall muscles as well. Over the counter pain relievers only offer partial relief.

Also, the twitches have made a home in my butt for a while now and that muscle feels sore as well and some muscles, like those in my forearms, are constantly sore, though I rarely get twitches there.

I'd really appreaciate some feedback as to whether the level of pain & stiffness I am experiencing is typical of BFS ? THanks in advance for your help.

I often get this soreness/stiffness in my upper back for weeks at a time; although it is much more pronounced on the left side, particularly around my shoulder blade.

THanks, guys, for your kind replies. Sorry to hear your in the same boat as me.

The back aches are a killer but it really gets scary when my chest starts to ache and stiffen up. Then I start having visions of being on a ventilator.

I've started taking hot baths which do help somewhat.

I went through last week certain that something terrible finally was crawling up on me--I had sore extremely stiff muscles all of the week, but this week started out considerably better, even though my calves are currently twitching almost constantly. I cannot make much sense out of it.
