he has had muscle pain all over since early summer. no weakness, more pain and cramping. occurs mostly in the legs/calf areas. he says he feels annoying fasiculations. he was on lipitor for some time and he noticed this all started when he started taking that medication. his dr. thinks its fibromyalgia. he is mostly bothered by these symptoms at night. he is active and works out. he is a very stressed individual to begin with so i dont know if that means anything. he just had complete bloodwork and a stress test and all were fine. does this sound like als?

If I were you I'd wait on someone to give you a better answer than Dale just did.

(There's lots of nice people who can answer your questions so just give it a couple days and I'm sure someone can help. Unfortunately I'm pretty new so I can't give you much advice)

Good luck to your Dad, it's nice you're watching out for him.

Hi NY, and welcome!
I think Dale's comment was because you asked specifically if your Dad has als and this is a bfs board.

Obviously, there are lots of folks here concerned about als, but none of us has it, we all (for the most part,) do have bfs however.

In answer to your question, twitching without clinical weakness and a normal neuro exam is generally not als. It certainly could be bfs, though we can't diagnose him over the internet, (or at all, considering we aren't doctors, lol.) It is very common for bfs symptoms to manifest in the legs and calfs. Also, burning and cramping is not unusual.

If the lipitor is giving him the symptoms, why wouldn't his doctor change to a different medication?

Blessings,
Sue
Has he been seen by a neuro?
