Muscle Pain in the Midwest

I know we have discussed this before, but am I one of the few who have actual muscle pain ...not cramps, but pain. I was almost symptom free in November and then the weather here in the midwest turned frigid and i started hurting once again. It is mostly hips and shoulder, but moves other places too. My twtiches are about 70% improved from their onset 16 months ago. I am thinking maybe i really do have fibromyalgia. I know twitching is a common complaint with that too. Any suggestions from others who hurt?Linda

Linda: I too, have muscle pain, along with joint pain. My right shoulder has really been hurting today and I believe it has a lot to do with the cold. My feet, hips, knees and elbow will hurt at various times also. Have you been diagnosed with fibromyalgia? I don't even know the symptoms for that.

Hi cindy, I saw a rheumatologist last summer who said she felt I had Fibromyalgia related to the hashimotos thyroid disease I have. They diagnose by ruling out other autoimmune diseases and testing for tender points. I had 14 different tender points. I guess maybe I need to accept this is what I have. The symptoms wax and wane and get worse in cold weather. That is also consistent with fibro.Sorry you hurt too :(Linda

Linda, how did you find out Hashimoto....i have Vitiligo and they often go together....my bloodtests did not show abnormalities in the thyroid....

Hi laurent, sometimes the thyroid panel...meaning your TSH, free t4 and free T3 will look "normal", but it is the TPO antibody test that is specific for Hashimotos. Often they don't include this in the panel. The TPO can be elevated even when the other thyroid numbers are in range. Usually anything over 30 means Hashimotos. Mine was 911.Hope this helps.Linda p.s. I saw on another thread that Basso felt I was condescending to you. Please accept my apologies if I came across that way. I have had anxiety over this BFS condition too and I was just trying to suggest relaxation as a means to calm the twitches. Hope you are doing ok today :)

MPLS, i take advil for the pain too and yes, i have the same issue if I have to carry something like a suitcase. I really don't like taking so mcu ibuprofen, but I suppose it is better than lyrica or some of the other drugs they have offered me.Linda

Unfortunately my stomach can't tolerate the alleve. I've tried it a couple different times. glad it works for you though :)Linda

Does anyone get this type of pain in their calves? I would not call what I have 'muscle cramps'...it's definately more accurate to say I have 'muscle pain' in my calves. I also notice it's worse if I am cold.Also...my twitching is 90 % in my legs..and probably about 90% of that is my right leg. The other places are in my butt, a couple times in my arm. I think I've felt a couple in my stomach and one time in my face.It just makes me nervous when I read that I should twitch all over with BFS...because mine is more localized to my legs with my right leg being worse than the left. I should say my EMG was 100% normal as was my MRI, physical exam and bloodwork. Will there ever be a day that I don't worry that this is something more serious than BFS?Jess

I have been getting charlie horses lately in my calves, which scares the crap out of me, especially when I am sound asleep and then I have the horrible pain.Chaos - my twitching is localized to mostly my left side. I do get twitches randomly on the right and throughout my body, but I would say that most of my twitches are 95% left side. And I also feel that I am weaker on the left side as well. It will be two years in April, I would think that I would stop worrying, but I have started exercising again, and maybe it just plain makes my symptoms worse - I just don't know!I will keep working out for a month and see if my symptoms will go away.Does anyone else experience this?Karin
