Hello, I am a 33 year old male. I have some questions regarding muscle fasiculations I was hoping I could get some insight into.
Approximately 2 weeks ago, I started having significant fasiculations in my right leg, mainly in the calf area. They are very visible upon examination and it looks like muscle fibers are jumping or twitching over the majority of my lower leg. I also noticed them to a lesser extent in my left leg, but they are not as prominent and I cannot feel them. They are just barely visible, but they are there. In my right leg, I can pretty much feel and see them all the time. Sometimes they are slight and sometimes they are pretty bad. I am also experiencing somewhat of a cramping feeling in my right calf and behind my right knee on and off. It is nothing too painful, but it feels better if I stretch out my leg or put a heating pad on it.
I have had twitching in my right calf before on and off. I would estimate this started approximately 1.5-2 years ago. Once in awhile my calf would start twitching. It would last usually between a couple of hours to maybe an entire day then settle down. It would only happen a few times a year. I never paid too much attention to it until now due to the fact that it won’t seem to stop.
Other than this, my legs and other muscles feel pretty strong. I can go for walks and carry out my normal routine without any problems. I sit a lot at work and I find that stretching my right leg out on a leg rest under my desk feels better.
Of course, I am now worried about having a serious condition such as ALS or MS. What worries me is that my fasiculations seem to be isolated to my calves (especially my right) and I am reading that BFS sufferers have fasiculations in multiple areas of their bodies.
Thank you so much for your help.
