Mold Exposure: Everyone Affected

Jenn,
The answer to your question is yes. Everyone here has been exposed to mold. Literally everyone! Mold is everywhere, including everyones house. Don't think to much into this. I would not htink you would have to worry about neurological symptoms with mold exposure unless it was very severe exposure. You maybe only need to slightly worry about respiratory issues with extensive mold exposer.

kl,
I totally agree with Basso. I just can't put things into words like he can. With Basso's permission I will say that is excatly what I'm saying to the exact word. If that makes sense. Don't want to start a war here, as I have started way to many lately. So let me digress with a less aggressive tone.

Of course there is a underlying catalyst of our twitches, but I just don't feel like spending tons of time to find out. I rather just spend my time making myself able to mentally deal with this very real physical condition. I should not denegrate you for taking a different approach. That just might be the type of person you are, and there is nothing wrong with that. I just do not want to throw other visitors on this board into a high state of anxiety as I stated earlier. I want to make them feel better. And I don't think personnaly that it is mentally healthy to be obsessing over a cause. I rather just deal with the fact that I have it, and then move on without looking back on what the cause is. It will keep me focusing on the negative part of this condition for way to long and I will drive myself crazy. Yes, I do sometimes relapse to the point where I want to know what is causing them, but I try to get myself out of that frame of mind quickly. That is just what works best for me, and forgive me for attacking you for looking at it in another way. Not to be redundant, I'm just worried about others reading this post and getting freaked about it for no reason at all.

Wolv,
I understand where you are coming for. I also understand the fear that people people on this board have. Where I do disagree with you is that people should not be prohibited from using this board to discuss possible causes because it might make some people upset (some people are to afraid to go to the neurologist). I'm only doing what everyone else is doing...comparing experience.

Let me put it this way...if I move out of my mold-infested water damaged apartment and my symptoms get better should I post that?

Yes, that is why I apologized. I won't go into the reasons that I went into that tangent, it is just things that have happened on this board lately have me paranoid.

Here's another forum member(David) who considered a mold connection all the way back in May 15, 2003.

"Been a few months since I posted here. Been experiencing a lot of the same symptoms that most folks mention, but lately mine have been getting worse. I was having the typical twitching & night time jolts, but now I have this steady, light trembling/shaking that occurs primarily when I am lying down or sitting. It isn't a specific muscle or muscle area that is twitching but a light shaking that can be felt over a large area like my trunk, upper legs, neck or waist area, etc. When I stand up the shaking almost goes away completely. The only thing I experience when I'm up and about is an occasional light headedness. Needless to say it is making sleeping very, very difficult because the moment I lay down this light shaking starts and it doesn't really stop unless I cuddle up very close to my wife and that does help some (but that's hard to maintain since she's a heavy snorer).

Now the other day my wife brought up the possibility of mold & fungus exposure. We live here in western Oregon, where most of you are probably aware that it is quite moist for a good portion of the year. Add to that that we have several significant water leaks (through our badly in need of repair roof). Many water stains are visible on ceilings throughout the house. Now, if we have this much water leakage and we also live where we do, then I'm thinking that there could be some significant molds & fungus growing, but just not very visible. Unfortunately, we are not in a position financially to do anything about the roof or the possible fungus problem except to move. BTW, I rarely exeprience these shaking problems when we are away and not sleeping in our house.

So, my obvious question is does anyone know if exposure to molds & fungus can cause neurological type symptoms like I mentioned or the other typical BFS symptoms? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

David"

The answer from the research I've done is an unequivocal yes, mold CAN cause neurological problems.

Davids symptoms seem alot like mine I have to say. There is one thing though..My fiance and I left the house where there was mold about 8 months ago..I did not begin twitching there but had really bad allergies and started taking my zyrtec more because if I didnt it seemed like I could not breathe well. I literally had to go to ER one night because I thought I was having an asthma attack BUT have had that before also and not in that house. I do know that my allergies were worse there and then I got strep throat and very very weak feeling...Left, felt a little better and then the tingling and pins and needles started and then the twitches started, etc....I dont know what to think of the mold thing. I do know that I am allergic to mold, had allergy test. All I know is when I move into my new house in a couple of months I will make sure there is no mold..not just for BFS but because it is not healthy all away around...Jenn

Jenn,
What you described is almost exactly what happened to me. I caught a horrible sore throat that didn't go away for three weeks with a very weak feeling(this could be either an allergy to mold or a viral infection) then the pins and needles started then the twitches. David's symptoms match mine too. Sleep difficulties are my primary complaint right now.

Did you're doctor test for strep?

Yes they tested and it came back positive..BUT I didnt take the meds right away because with my heart condition they wanted to check to see if I could take it..It didnt feel like strep though..I had strep before and was not nearly as bad as I had it before. I went to my Dr. after meds and they retested me because my throat was till hurting me and saw white stuff on tonsils but that test came up negative. They thought a virus..then it went downhill from there..Jenn

So, in other words it wasn't strep?

I don't think what I had was strep cause I took a weeks worth of antibiotics and it didn't go away. Which leads me to think it was either viral or allergy related (both seem possible).

Was it the worst sore throat you've ever had?
Did it hurt to swallow, like your lymph nodes were swollen?

lymph nodes were swollen as swollen could be and took a month to go down. It wasnt the worst sore throat I had that is why I didnt think it was strep, I had strep before and wowww did that hurt. I kept telling them it wasnt strep because it did not hurt as bad..I had tree strep tests all together ..2 came back positive and 1 did not..The one that did not the Dr. said it doesnt mean anything you testing positive for strep, alot of people carry strep bacteria but they dont have strep throat..All I do know is that I was so weak I could not stand..like I had mono are something and this is when my arms started to become heavy..Jenn
