Managing Anxiety: Muscular Wasting Follow-Up

I have not posted for a while as my anxiety has not been so great, which is a good thing.

however today I saw my GP to follow up the neurology stuff.

My GP agreed that there is muscle wasting in my left hand, in fact it was obvious enough even to my brother when I showed him, and he has way more muscle between both his thumbs than I have in either of my hands.

My GP has agreed to arrange for a neck scan (about time too) and has agreed to refer me to another neurologist, out of town.

She says to forget about the stuff with my legs and arms as that is explainable and is not ALS, she said I can't be sure that my left side has got any weaker as I have noticed the uneveness in my strength when learning to swim, as I have nothing to compare it with before.

She is concerned to get an explanation for my tongue twitching. because she can see that for herself.

Incidentally she could not find my EMG test results on the system, I have a strong suspicion they have been lost. It doesn't matter now since I will take everything from what the next neurologist says.

I was surprised because I did not have to do any extraordinary pleading to get refered for a second opinion.

PlayfulPants~~
Thanks for clearing that up~~I was just wondering about the tongue twitching, since that one seems to be a hot topic now and then. As I mentined, I've been having that, and for some reason, it is definitely the most anxiety provoking.
So, your neuro did not think the tongue twitching was assoicated with als, then, right? I don't want to sound stupid, but when you say pathological, that means sort of in your mind, right? I wasn't sure, cause I thought doctors also use that phrase meaning that a symptom does have some kind of cause.
I am so glad you didn't mention that other thing about Bulbar onset als, because I AM SURE I would be having that tonight! Thanks for not mentioning that. Even though I am really curious, I don't want to know. I remember when I first started twitching, it had started only in my right hand, on my thumb mostly, and then after I had read about all the NMD's, I remember sitting there actually typing, and getting these weird twitches going across my upper chest. I knew I was bringing it on out of anxiety, and I couldn't stop it. I really wish actually I had never read about tongue twitching, cause honestly I don't know if maybe I also brought that one on myself. It wasn't that long after I read about it that I got it myself.
I'm sorry you have to wait so long, but as you said, one good thing about this is that time is on your side. And, everything seems to sound so positive so far with you.
I wonder about the neck scan too. I had posted a while back, about one time recently when I had gotten my hair done at this salon, and you know how they put your head back into that sink, and there is a lot of pressure on the back of your neck, and it gets kind of sore sometimes? Well, I had never had this happen before, but this last time when I had my hair done, as I was in that position, my whole face area and around my neck all started twitching a real lot. It calmed down after I got up, and sat normal.
Anyway, thanks for the response, I hope you are feeling better! Talk to you soon, Val
