Lump in Butt Cheek: Surgery or Not?

I saw an Internal Medicine doc today to see what his opinion was on my lump in my butt cheek and overall the appointment went well. He did say however that he did not like where the lump is located and recommended that I see a surgeon and just make a plan to get the lump removed and see what it is then. The other alternative he said if I didnt want to have surgery in that area was to just leave it there (as long as it was determined not to be causing me any problems) and just have it biopsied to make sure that it isnt cancer. I tried really hard to get him to say that it wasnt cancer but all he could say was that he had no way of knowing that for sure, but he said he wouldnt be a good doctor if he told me to just ignore it...He did however say that if he was a betting man that he would be willing to bet against it being cancer. He said it felt like a internal hemroid would feel like but that it wasnt exactly in the area it should be for it to be that, but did have that consistency on examination. Regardless he didnt seem super concerned, but didnt want to just leave it there either. So I will be seeing a surgeon soon to see what they recommend (either to remove it or just leave it and biopsy it) and go from there. Thanks for all the support from the ones who stayed in touch with me this week until I had my appointment. It is very much appreciated :D) Love you guysRobynn :D)

Robynn,Just remember, that if it happened to be the big C, you've had it for a really, really long time - so it's unlikely to be anything aggressive. Did you decide what to do? Get it biopsied? I'm very glad the doctor didn't seem too concerned. I'm sending you lots of good thoughts for it being nothing serious at all!!!Gosh, with all the twitching, and fears around that - this is the last thing you need... Hang in there.Mitra

MW, thanks for the support...I'm not wigging out about it too much....It really does seem like cancer would be the last thing on the list...but most likely I will just have it removed..It really just depends on how invasive the surgery would be because of location just because that area doesnt seem like a real fun area to be cut into  But if the surgeon says that it would be a simple procedure without a lot of down time then yeah I'll just get it out.As for the twitching and the other worries, I dont really have those types of worries anymore...I still often wonder what brought all this on, but I cant say that those thoughts stress me out much anymore...its the new me...and I can cope just fine most days now and feel a good 70 to 80% better then I did this time last year. The doctor today did say that he wants to test me for Vit D deficiency and that he was a bit surprised that the neuro I had last year didnt...so we will see if maybe that could be the culprit, but I dont hold my breath much these days on finding a cause.Take care MWRobynn :D)

Yeah mommy! Glad you got some answers. I would imagine surgery wouldn't be to invasive, just the healing. You'd have to stay off your butt- do you know how hard that would be lol. No one could stand up for 10 days, maybe you could sit on one cheek

Thanks Miss...arent you funny today   I dont know, I'm pretty talented but sitting on one cheek for 10 days may prove to be quite a challenge.I personally would like to just get it biopsied and if its all good then just leave it until it becomes an issue, if it ever does...I have to wait and see what the surgeon recommends..I'll let you all know.Take care and thanks againRobynn :D)

Hi Robynn, Dr's will rarely commit to 100% until they've had a biopsy, because they are forever wary of lawsuits. Has anyone mentioned a pilonidal cyst? I know in the beginning you'd said it wasn't a cyst, but I was just wondering. I haven't followed this entire thread, but came back here today, just to check on you. :) Not that I was worried at all. :D) What have you opted to do? Blessings, Suzi
