Living with BFS: My Story

Hi Everyone:I suffered with BFS starting 8 years ago. I lost 2 1nd 1/2 years of my life due to anxiety and fear over ALS and numerous other neurological diseases. After 2 and 1/2 years I started to believe that this syndrome was truly Benign. Since then life has been the usual. I still have bouts of twitching but I never obsess and it is much more acute. Looking back at it I am almost certain it was my bodies way of dealing with the constant stress I was under, 3 yound children, running my business, buying a house, getting close to 40 and so on.Finding this site help reduce the anxiety BFS causes and probably help me on my way to a recovery. I like to check in every now and then to pass along my story so that any new sufferers of BFS will hopefully accept the benign nature of this frightful condition. 8 years later still playing hockey, running, swimming and more. Life is still stressful but I don't worry about my health as much.Good Luck Everyone - believe doctors when they say you are fine and get out and live life.

Hi JakeHappy Anniversary! It's wonderful to receive word of people such as yourself who are fit and well despite their BFS. So thanks for taking the trouble to touch base.My first anniversary is about 3 weeks away.RegardsSimon

Thank you so much for posting. Hearing that you are still going strong after 8 years reminds us that these symptoms do exist in people that will lead otherwise normal, healthy lives. If you have the time, please say a little more about the current state of your symptoms. Have the changed much over the 8 years? Do they occur constantly, hourly, daily, weekly, etc? Do you get them body wide or mainly in one or two areas?I hope you continue to update us yearly. It is the best info a fellow twitcher (with no answers as to why) can get.Krackersones

KrackersonesWhy cant you just accept that the body twitches without it being a complicated neuro-scientific thing? The sooner you accept the twitching the sooner you will get back to pre-bfs life. You are always seeking answers, always asking questions. You are obsessed with this stuff. Give the man a brake. He is 8 years out. Why would he give it more attention than already given? A post here after so many years is more that anyone can ask for. It is just another brick in the wall of "the doc was right after all".thanks jack
