Living with ALS Fear

Hello there,i am new here and i am like a lot of others concerned to suffer from ALS. I have fasciculation for 6 month now all over my whole body.Some weeks ago i noticed a very strange symptom, that really worries me: When i beat my thenar and hypothenar muscles the muscles start to contract. Sometimes so hard, that my thumb moves (adduct), sometimes there are only small fasciculations.The same happens when i contract my thenar muscles really "hard".Is that a common sign of BFS? Has somebody experienced something like this? I am kind of freaking out, because for me it seems like to be something "neurological".Thank you for your answers!

This is a sign of increased neuromuscular irritability which is something one would expect in a person with BFS. Most likely you will have the same in your deltoids and tongue (if stuck out slightly and hit on its edge against lower molars). Get checked for tetany (might be sign of it as well) but otherwise its pretty unspecific.I have had the same for...nearly 7 years.

Hej.Thank you for your quick answer. This reliefs me a little bit. When i first recognized this symptom i was really suprised, in a negative way. I was a view times at my neurologist. My clinical examination was ok. I had normal nerv conduction velocity and evoked potential answers. She said that she don`t think that it is ALS. But to relief me she will sent me to MRI for my cervical spine and to another specialist in a clinic. So that i get a second opinion to be sure.You said, you also had this. How did it occur? And your are symptomfree now (after 7 years)?Best wishes,Alice

No, I have still -maybe a bit worse - the same symptoms.

The other day I (playfully!) slapped my husband on his back, and then my thenar started twitching. Next time I'll use a closed fist to avoid the twitching, haha! But on all seriousness, like doc says it's quite common here to be able to induce twitches.
