Leg Cramping: EMG Tomorrow

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Went to dr's today about cramping in left leg, she says it looks smaller than right, possible atrophy. Emg tom. at 2:00. Does this mean *l*? What comes first atrophy or weakness? I dont really notice weakness. just cramping. Can I have bad emg and not *ls? I am freaking out........................

Please take a deep breath. If I remember you had a clean EMG not too long ago, I apologize if I’m mistaken. Many things can cause some muscle loss in your legs; a pinched nerve in your back is one of the most common causes. Also, no two limbs, (legs / arms), are symmetrical. My left arm is smaller than my right. Please try and relax, (I know easy to say, hard to do), and I will be sending you out positive energy to support you through this anxious time. Please let us know how your exam goes. Take care, Mike

Springbrock, have you had an EMG in the past? I have had cramping in my left calf for just about a year now. I also have trouble with my left foot. Please try not to freak out, I know it's easier said than done. I've been there. What are your other symptoms? I tried to to a search for your previous posts and it wouldn't let me for some reason.

I just found your previous posts. It seems like we have alot of the same symptoms....problems with our fingers, feet, toes, and calf. Maybe we are twins....LOL I have been to so many doctors and I guess the only explanation is BFCS. I've been at this for almost 3 years with symptoms changing almost daily, if not weekly. Today my arm (up by my shoulder) twitched for a hour non stop. I just sat there and watched it. Tried to call my husband but he didn't hear me. I wanted him to see it. He thinks I am crazy sometimes.....well all the time!

I have feeling of something caught in throat,(4 months) muscle twitches(3 months) and for the last 2 weeks cramping in calf. I had heaviness in arms and legs that lasted 11 weeks been gone 7. I had okay emg in october but the left leg being smaller scares me. Maybe it always was and I never noticed. How long does atrophy take? no real weakness. Is there a difference between mucle twitch and fasiculations?

I'm telling you....we have so many of the same symptoms. I have noticed alot of throat and tongue spasms recently, however, I do have a cold/sinus problem going on right not. My arms and legs feel very weak at times. Put it this way, it is not effortless to brush my teeth. Sometimes I feel like I can't lift my arms. The great thing is that even though I feel like I can't, I CAN do it. I know that with ALS, you CAN'T DO IT. It's not a matter of feeling like you can't. Your body just won't do what you want it to do. Have a nice night and please let us know how your appointment goes tomorrow. I'm sure you will be fine. Take care

This is such a right handed/footed world. My right calf is bigger than my left, I never noticed until I started with BFS. If you think about it, you use your right foot for driving, braking, etc. This is only one example, so over MANY years, this can show up as a difference since the muscles are used more. I think lefties (HANDED) are probably the only ones likely to be even, I remember when my left arm felt like it wasn't working properly, etc. I was asking everyone what if they can use their left hand a lot, etc. The answers varied from some saying it was almost useless (can't even get keys in the door) to almost ambidextrious. The lefties seemed to have the advantage because its a right handed world and they have to adapt. Let us know when your stuff comes back OK.

Springbock,

I too have a difference in my calf size. I haven't had my EMG yet, but it is coming in Feb. I have had the twitching as you have had for 4 months. I am right dominant, and my right calf is almost a half inch smaller in diameter. My doctor paid no heed to that and there is no weakness. I can still push and lift the same, can run my 5k a few times a week and play indoor socces once per week. No stumbling or gait concerns. I do have some cramps and stiffness in my feet and calfs, and hands. I have been asking the same questions that you had. I have measured my calfs and other muscles many times over the past 3 months. None of them have changed which leads me to believe it was always like that. If you stare at them enough, you will notice the difference immediately.

My right arm is about the same difference in size then my left. So is my right thigh. So the differences are symetrical in nature.

While both calfs twitch, the left one is worse than the right.

I have also had the lump in my throat experiences. On and off. But I have now realized that it, along with my twitching gets considerably worse in stressful circumstances. Excercise cause my legs to twitch like popping corn.

So - all in all, if the EMG was clean in October, you are fine...enjoy the holidays, take a deep breath and relax. If you need support, there are plenty of people here willing to provide it.

I've noticed a difference in the size of my testicles. I'm not thinking atrophy yet, but my wife did say that they look like they had shrunk a bit. Which surprised me, because she hadn't seen them for about half a year before that...huh, oh well. One also hangs lower than the other. WTF, is up with that?

Does anyone else have testicles of different sizes, or ovaries maybe? Just wondering.
